Well folks,
After upgrading to Mountain Lion I have discovered DP6 is NOT compatible. I called MOTU and the option is to upgrade to DP 7. I have upgraded thru the years since DP3. I can't afford another upgrade at this time. I am very disappointed MOTU will not make version 6 compatible with Mountain Lion.
Incompatibility finger pointing can also be directed at Apple. Add to that the fact that Apple has pulled Lion from the app store and there's more to dislike about how Apple is being run (or rundown).
Apple wants you to BUY and use Logic and makes sure that is the most currently compatible app for music production.
I wouldn't hold MOTU responsible for that situation. DP 8 & Finale on a PC is sounding pretty good for the future in my studio.
Yes, I was looking into downgrading down to Lion and while I can see it in my list of purchases on the app store, it won't let me download it because " a newer version of OSX is installed". Don't want to sound like a finger pointer, just dissappointed.
Pointing fingers after pulling money out of your pocket is perfectly valid. I'm in the group who apparently have purchased their last Apple OS unless they change back to a more pro, more compatible and less mobile oriented system.
It really would be impractical for any company to make a discontinued legacy product that was originally designed to work in Panther or Tiger(can't remember)compatible for a newer OS many years after the fact.
Honestly you should always check for compatibility before you do a OS upgrade.
How many users do you actually think are trying to use DP6 on a system with MLion?
Most users here will agree DP6 was probably the worst version of DP ever & alternatively DP7 rocks!
I'm sure you know but just in caseyou don't , if you get DP7 before DP8 comes out you will also get version 8 for free.
I upgraded to 6 and read so many bad threads about it I stayed in 5.13 and then upgraded to 7,my box of DP6 is still unopened gathering dust! lol
Everyone has made bad upgrade choices from time to time.
I understand you don't want to or don't have the upgrade $$ but if you can swing it before DP8 gets released you'll get 2 for the price of 1 and believe me you will be thrilled to leave 6 behind.

I would place a call to Apple and explain that you wanted to buy Lion. They have traditionally made older OS available for those systems that cannot run the newer - and there are machines that can run Lion but not ML.
A few months ago, I had them send me a system restore CD for my iMac as the commercial SL disk would not boot my iMac - they did this at no charge. It seems that MOTU support told me that my system was totally corrupted and that's why 7.24 wouldn't open my 5 and 6 files... MOTU was wrong, it was changes they made between 7.12 and 7.24 but that's a different issue that I fixed myself.
I am going to be running some tests this weekend. 5 and 6 run over Lion if installed and authorized in 10.5 or 10.6 first. If it can run over ML, I will know it. I made install DVDs of Lion and Mountain Lion from my downloads.
The one thing is that, if you order 7.24 now, you will get DP 8 when it ships.

no one here really knows and if they do know, they have NDA.
To get the 2 for 1 deal you must order before 8 is released.
The other reason I'd go this way is you'd get a mature DP7 to work with and then you can wait a bit for a couple of DP8 updates to make sure it's a good time to move to version 8.
Most users will tell you DP7 is a very good DP and will offer all sorts of improvements over DP6 & will keep you productive until your ready to go to 8,grab it while you can........

Is DP6 even officially supported in Lion? I thought the 7.24 update was released to bring full Lion support?
Expecting a non current version of an app to be compatible with a new OS is a bit too much wishful thinking and here I don't think MOTU (or apple) is to blame. You just shouldn't have upgraded to ML without checking first. Now all you can do is to look at it as a lesson learned the hard way...

Hurry. 7.24 is the most stable version of DP ever. There's likely to be bumps going DP8. Since anyone who buys DP7 is eligible for a free upgrade to 8 you'll have both versions.
Anyone with versions earlier than DP7, now is the time to upgrade. Not AFTER the release of 8.
Nope but 6.03 and 5.13 work if installed and authorized before upgrading to Lion.
>I thought the 7.24 update was released to bring full Lion support?<
Versions before 7.24 will not Authorize in Lion. The DP 7 CD may be any version, however. The 7.24 updater is a full version - you do not have to install an earlier version of 7 first.

Since all ran over Lion booting up in the 64-bit kernel, it made no sense that these wouldn't run in ML. Turns out, they do - as long as they were installed and authorized on your computer before upgrading to Mountain Lion or Lion. The flip side is that no version of DP can be installed and authorized on Leo or ML before 7.24.
I did a clean install of OS 10.6.4, then installed DP 5.13, 6.03, 7.01, 7.12 and 7.24. Rosetta is a required install for the 5 and 6 CDs to work before 5.12 and 6.03.
I then opened a file I recorded in 2004. It worked fine in everything except 7.24 which crashed.
I did a Get Info, unlocked and granted Read & Write to all three classes of users and selected Apply to Enclosed Items. As expected, the file now worked in 7.24.
Next, I tried to install Mountain Lion from a copy of the installer that I burned to DVD for this test. I then got the error that ML required 10.6.8 first - so I ran Software Update and ML installed.
I then reopened my project and tested it in all five versions. I have not installed any of my third party plugs.

Since ML is a refinement of Leo and those versions all ran on Leo, it made no sense to me that they wouldn't work in ML.
A few months ago, I had an issue where most of my old files wouldn't open in 7.24 but did in 5 and 6 (and 7.01 & 7.12 as it turned out). MOTU couldn't figure out why. So I had to figure out what worked over which OS so I already knew what worked in Lion. This test relied on that info so I completed it in an hour and a half (I was testing other parts of ML, too).
MOTU blamed my problems on everything from a corrupt hard drive and files to gawdknows what and just couldn't understand that something had changed in 7.24. Doing the Get Info and granting Read & Write access to all levels fixed my problems so it is some sort of permissions issue. I let them know the solution but am not sure anyone believes me. I don't care - my old files work now in 7.24 and I have no need for DP 5 anymore (I hated 6 anyway).
Bottom line: I am now ready for DP 8.
