DP 7.01, PPC, 10.4.11...near perfect ; )
Hey all,
again, just wanna say, i love this site and DP. good lord!
forgive me if this topic has been stated before, but i looked and didn't see exactly this combo with the feedback i was looking for, just with Leopard on PPC.
So, I just wanna say that i've finally taken the leap and installed DP 7.01 on a 2.3 Dual PPC, running Tiger, w/6.5 gigs of ram, and things could not be better. I'm in shock. completely.
So for anyone who has been searching for 'the answer' as to whether this combination works....IT DOES! I opened the most recent project I've been working on (in 6.02) with big fears, only to find out, i had nothing to worry about. those fears turned to excitement when i noticed how much i've gained in performance from VI's and plugins in general.
The project has 30+ stereo audio tracks, 10+ mono, and 3 VI's. In specific 2 instances of Miroslav Philharmonic, and 1 of 4Front's True Piano. Not to mention a few PSP plugs, some native MOTU plugs, some Waves EQ's, etc... Everything is just more stable and fluid. Perfect. Period.
i'm sure it's in my head, but the project sounds ever so slightly better. i'm sure it's just excitement, but i swear it does. felt the same about 6.02 as well. who knows.
Latency with VI's with buffers at 512 on a Rosetta 200, is pretty much unnoticable. And i gotta say, i don't mind the stomp boxes or the live room plug. kind of cool and very decent.
anyhoo, what a site full of great people. thanks again MOTU!

And here I was, smugly thinking that I'd never upgrade to
DP7 because it wouldn't work any better than 5.13 on PPC/Tiger.

G5 dual 2ghz - pci / 3 gig ram / 10.4.11 / DP 7.01 working a treat here.
After ten days or so, I can conclusively say it is more stable, more efficient and faster than 6.xx

You guys are gonna' make me break down and upgrade from 6.02, despite the fact I worked all day without a crash.
Re: DP 7.01, PPC, 10.4.11...Perfect
dammnation!!! - now u got me wondering too - even tho my version of DP 6.02 is near perfect~!~~~!!! I have had weeks of flawless operation - in fact I'm happy with DP6
I have DP running on some imacs with only 3 gig of ram...
do you guys have lots of audio editing going on? and automation on said audio?
I am about to start my busy-ist period ever...
still on fence.
I would like a channel strip tho,,,

Only do audio, 24bit/48khz, 24-32 track mostly and with lots of editing. I'm not getting any page in or outs into virtual memory either. Some automation with an MC Mix which seems fine so far. I have had one hang on BTD.martian wrote:dammnation!!! - now u got me wondering too - even tho my version of DP 6.02 is near perfect~!~~~!!! I have, on many projects, at least 30+ stereo, 10+ mono, and almost always, tons of cpu intensive plugins. and tons of automation, always, and record at 24/44.1
I can't tell you how much i've been dreading this upgrade...AND i did a big NO-NO...i decided to upgrade in the middle of a project that's already overdue. very happy at the moment.
HOWEVER...sorry guys...i did have a graphic issue with a pan knob not 'responding' to me moving it. in other words, the sound would audibly pan, but not visibly. HOWEVER, i could not recreate this 'issue' again after 3 more hours of use. I was kinda flying around with many adjustments, due to how much SNAPPIER

other than that, to anyone who's got the same system as I, give it a shot. I must add that i don't have any 3rd party hardware, i.e., UAD's etc...
thanks to everyone for sharing the feedback!

Re: DP 7.01, PPC, 10.4.11...Perfect
OK, I´m done hearing your success stories,...
...so... I´m buying Logic...
Ooops, No, I meant I´ll update next week...
Now, seriously, there´s been no bad reports for this combo at all that I can recall, so I´m starting to feel silly for delaying the upgrade to the new machine, even though 6.02 is doing just fine here, with 1 crash in the last 3 weeks working almost daily (and some long days too, it went flawlessly trough a 18h session the other day, with one restart for lunch for example).
I want my projects to load faster, and real time fades could be sweet.
I´m buying it; It IS snappier.
EDIT:
The pan knob issue could be related to the mixer updating issues described in some other topic, I remember something about closing and opening the Mixer fixing it, maybe just clicking somewhere else and back in?

Re: DP 7.01, PPC, 10.4.11...Perfect
I'm using a 2.3 DC PPC w/ 10.4.11 also and went back to DP5.12 since I rely heavily on Triology and Atmosphere which absolutely do not work/weren't compatible with DP 6xx. By any chance do these 2 VI's work in DP7? Thanks.

Here's a dumb question:
I'm still using DP 4.61 on my nice PPC G5.
Will upgrading to DP 7.01 be an improvement?
Thanks.

No, there is no chance. Trilogy and Atmosphere are dead products. It isn't a DP7 thing - these products simply don't work on Intel Macs and never will.Rusty Shackleford wrote:I'm using a 2.3 DC PPC w/ 10.4.11 also and went back to DP5.12 since I rely heavily on Triology and Atmosphere which absolutely do not work/weren't compatible with DP 6xx. Some people have reported "some" success using the Wrappers Spectrasonics provided, others have said the wrappers weren't working for them. Regardless, Spectrasonics is not supporting Trilogy and Atmosphere any longer.

David I think you may have read his question wrong about Trilogy and Atmosphere. He is NOT using an Intel Mac. He has a 2.3 Dual PPC running Tiger.David Polich wrote:No, there is no chance. Correct, Brian. My question is will Trilogy and Atmosphere run on a 2.3 PPC with 10.4.11(Tiger) on DP7? It did not work with this setup on DP6. Anybody have any success with this setup and DP7?
