Hi.. I just found this thread.. It's actually related to DP5 but might be relevant.

http://www.motunation.com/forum/viewtop ... cted+Error

It suggests a couple of fixes..

One trash your auth file and re-autherize DP. The other is to switch on your Asian fonts (if they're switched off that is).

Anyway have a read.. Hope it helps!

That is kATSUInvalidFontErr ("Used when an attempt was made to use an invalid font ID."), which usually indicates a problem with the font cache. Since the font cache is a runtime cache, maintained by the ATS server, I'd suggest a reboot. I've had this very same problem in the past after installing DP, and a reboot cleared it up, since the ATS cache gets reset on reboot.

no luck with any of the above suggestions... deleting auth file, rebooting....

de-installed DP7 and reinstalled.. that didn't work

i read that the font Apple LiGothic is required.... i don't have that font installed, but i do have AppleLi Gothic Medium

so, i'll try to track down plain old LiGothic and see if that works...

otherwise, i'm at a loss.

Taylor I am in the same boat. I posted on the first impressions thread,
"I cloned my imac HD (see sig for specs) to a FW external Seagate drive using Super Duper.
I booted from Seagate and installed SL. Some bugs, driver updates, worked it out mostly. Launched DP 5.13 and get this, "MacOS error: unexpected error (-8796)".
I click OK, but when I try to launch a project DP crashes. I try several times. No change. I try Audiodesk 3, same response.
Today DP7 arrives. SL on the Seagate is fine except for MOTU Software. I remove Ethno bundle and Ethno and Stillwell components to a folder on the desktop and install DP7. Same behavior as before."
Any luck finding that font? Where does one look for something like that?

Wow. Folks, we have a mini-epidemic here. This has happened three or four times now. What's the common element in all these stories? What did it take to fix it?

Guys, try opening a new user account, and installing DP there. If it opens there, then you've got the same problem as Kevorkian. I think he's got his fixed now, so there is hope, but you should listen to him if he's got any advice.

Yoohoo, I'm on my way. Started a new user account (first time for that) and DP7 fired right up. Well I have a lot of work to do straightening it all out, but this is my first look at the new GUI and it seems, well, snappier.
Thanks to timriley for originally pointing me this way, Taylor 12k for having this problem, Shooshie and Kevorkian for figuring out the solution. Sorry if I've left anyone out. Motunation rocks.
props to all,

Here's a post I made last week in another thread - it should be some help:
I don't understand MOTU. I went to their tech support tech links to ask about a fix for the -8796 error and after describing the problem discussed in this thread, most of my questions came back as "rejected". The ones with an actual response were requests for more info - which I provided.

That's the worst customer service I've gotten in years. They might as well have said, "screw you". No "Were working on it.", no "We don't have a fix at this time." just "rejected."

I have a 3 month old 3.06 GHz iMac 24", 4 MB ram. I have nothing installed - only the standard Dp install and the updates from DP. I have a real problem with DP crashing on launch. If I copy LiGothic into my system folder before I launch DP, it opens but won't see my Traveler Mk III. If I close DP and relaunch, it crashes again. I've deleted everything MOTU/DP and reinstalled - 3 times. No joy.

New user account, install DP and drivers fixed the crash problem but DP still won't see the Traveler Mk III. . .

It's not like DP is the only software out there - you'd think they would be at least somewhat interested in keeping customers they have and provide a civil response to an honest question.

Has anyone found a fix for this or shall I just start using ProTools or Logic again?

Thanks

(Oh, to be fair, the response I did get asked if I had tried a different firewire cable. Duh - I tried several - all of which worked fine with other devices - and still do.)

An update to my last post - I installed Snow Leopard last week and the installation objected to 3 fonts in the system/library/fonts folder. It further asked me if I wanted to move them to the trash. I said yes and all my problems with DP have vanished.

Can't remember which 3 they were though.
In the same thread, there was much talk about the font "LiGothic" missing from the system's font folder. Replacing that worked for me once. But the 8796 error very much seems to be related to fonts and font IDs.
