DP6/MX 4 upgdrade offer from MOTU
Anybody avail themselves of this offer?
http://www.motu.com/newsitems/-mx4-vers ... -rendering
I wonder if MOTU is running out MX4 because they are either going to ditch it or upgrade it?
Its been awhile since v.2 came out - anybody know what is going on?
I've only ever read good things about MX4, but it doesn't seem to have set the world on fire...
[James, I put this in the DP forum because it has just as much to do with the DP6 upgrade as it does with MX4 itself.]

…string theory says that all subatomic particles of the universe are nothing but musical notes. A, B-flat, C-sharp, correspond to electrons, neutrinos, quarks, and what have you. Therefore, physics is nothing but the laws of harmony of these strings. Chemistry is nothing but the melodies we can play on these strings. The universe is a symphony of strings and the mind of God… it is cosmic music resonating through 11 dimensional hyperspace.

Just in case you haven't seen it, there are a few responses here:

I don't have MX4, but I remember trying the demo when it first appeared years ago. It's a clever little thing, no doubt, and for a lot of reasons it's my favorite MOTU Virtual Instrument. After all this time, I am really thinking of buying it-- even before I dare update to M5v2 or get any other MOTU instrument.
Moreover, I'm glad to see that MOTU has moved MAS along to be apparently as compatible as Audio Units. MOTU left MAS Instruments aside (in MAS format) to push DP forward with certain types of compatibility, so when DP6 first appeared with the same MAS instrument limitations of DP5-- even as they updated DP6 to new AU protocols-- it looked very strange. It still looks a little strange this far after the fact, but it's good to see that they are still supporting their own format, fwiw.

Very cool. Thanks for the info. MX-4 provides some great ear candy and for $99 I think it's a great dealFrodo wrote:Just in case you haven't seen it, there are a few responses here:

yah, thanx for that, Mr Frodo, I had seen that topic.
I guess I am curious as to why MOTU has done this. Is it a fire-sale, or???

When they updated DP6 so that VIs didn't have to be frozen first, they sort of dissed their own MAS instruments with this offline BTD feature. I found that a little strange-- but here it is October and they're just releasing the first MAS instrument that is fully compatible with the new DP which was released three months ago-- which was itself a mite tardy by 3-4 months.
Then again-- there could be a fire sale on now. I mean, most of the country is worried about their 401k these days when we DAW users are spending more time trying to figure out our k's at 48, 96, and 192!!

No, I don't think so.

Re: DP6/MX 4 upgdrade offer from MOTU
If I upgraded to Dp6 last week do you think they would still let me in on the offer? If they didn't would you guys help me protest?? I'm a little miffed I ordered it too early, but also hopeful that Motu will be forgiving of my mistake. They're replacing my 5 year old 828mk2 for $100 which is quite nice to hear.Anyone had a situation like this before? Thanks,Shaun
Re: DP6/MX 4 upgdrade offer from MOTU
Hey Shaun, the MOTU site says:the_guild wrote:If I upgraded to Dp6 last week do you think they would still let me in on the offer?
For a limited time, you can upgrade to DP6 and we'll include MX4 for only an additional $99 — that's a $295 value with savings to you of almost $200!
It's an interestingly-worded offer. While it doesn't say specifically that you *have to* order DP6 and MX4 at the same time to get the deal, it does sort of beats around that bush by saying: "To order your DP6 upgrade with MX4, contact MOTU customer service directly by phone, fax or email..."
It doesn't say anything else about ordering MX4 without DP6-- or if there are any perks if you've upgraded as recently as x-number of days/weeks ago. The really odd thing is that anyone who bought MX4 between July and September at full wack is also hosed on the discount whether they got DP6 or not-- that is, if I'm parsing the near-cryptic wording correctly.
If it's really a fire sale, it doesn't look as if it required more than a little baking soda to put out.

Re: DP6/MX 4 upgdrade offer from MOTU
I'm in a slightly different situation.
I have ordered my upgrade thru my trusty local retailer, but I haven't recieved it yet, so I have emailed MOTU, the Oz distributor, and the retailer, all to ask them if I can get the $99 deal. No response yet. I would think that given that they haven't delivered it yet, and consequently, I haven't taken possession yet, they should make it possible for me to get the $99 deal - you never know tho, do you?
I stumbled across all this when I found an Oz retailer (http://www.soundseasy.com.au/v3/product ... oductID=24) selling MX4 for $249 (Oz$) delivered. That got me thinking that it might be worthwhile looking at getting it, so I started to google up MX4. I came across a lot of good reviews of MX4, plus the offer from MOTU. The reviews, tho positive, were all about two years old. The age of the reviews and the sudden price drop got me thinking - is there something else going on, like pending obsolence or???
Having said all that, its a good price, it will work with DP6, everybody says its a good thing, so I will probably get it if I can get the $99 deal.

Re: DP6/MX 4 upgdrade offer from MOTU
What about the instrument plug-ins that are bundled with DP? I'm pretty sure those supported pre-rendering when DP 6.0 was released. It doesn't seem that unusual that it might take a bit longer for the "add-on" MOTU instruments to be updated to support the new feature.Frodo wrote:When they updated DP6 so that VIs didn't have to be frozen first, they sort of dissed their own MAS instruments with this offline BTD feature. Especially when it's an open secret that they're developed by/with/in some association with another company (USB) on the other side of the pond.1nput0utput wrote:It doesn't seem that unusual that it might take a bit longer for the "add-on" MOTU instruments to be updated to support the new feature.

Is USB the name of the French Company that makes the UVI engine? Or is that a different company?carrythebanner wrote:Especially when it's an open secret that they're developed by/with/in some association with another company (USB) on the other side of the pond.1nput0utput wrote:It doesn't seem that unusual that it might take a bit longer for the "add-on" MOTU instruments to be updated to support the new feature.

For what it's worth, I just called MOTU and even though I upgraded to DP6 a few months ago, they still gave me the $99 deal. Interesting...

Is it interesting because you appreciate their leniency or interesting because you are suspicious that they are behaving deviously?kschind wrote:For what it's worth, I just called MOTU and even though I upgraded to DP6 a few months ago, they still gave me the $99 deal. Interesting...

Re: DP6/MX 4 upgdrade offer from MOTU
I think its far more interesting that you called Motu and they answered.
I've been strictly email with them for a couple years now,as it seems impossible to reach them...Do you have some sort of secret number?,or a code you have to punch in as the phone is ringing?Magic Dave's ext.#?....kidding....sorta.
