CRASH CRASH CRASH DP 6 Problem !!!!
I was really, really excited when I finally received DP 6 in the mail last Thursday. I installed it immediately, and started messing about. One of the first problems that I encountered was when I tried to apply a fade to a DP 5 session that I now opened in DP 6 DP would crash. So the next day, which was Friday, I called tech support and went through the problem with one of the tech people. We couldn't settle the problem so he set me up a tech link with DP and had me email him my crash log. He said he would look at it that day and email me the results. Well the first email that I received was on Monday. I have submitted the emails and the steps we went through for review.
I have also tried to Reinstall DP 6 after uninstalling it.
I can record on sessions that I load with DP 5.13 and everything works well. I can play DP 5 sessions in 6 without problems. I can not record or try to use new fades with it without DP crashing. When I start a new DP 6 session and press play or try anything else DP crashes.
I started a new user account on my mac and I can use DP 6 in this account.
Any Ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Below is the techlink with the steps taken.

State change from 'Unread' to 'In progress'
Follow these instructions to create a new user account and test the problem from that account.
-Go to Apple menu > System Preferences > Accounts.
-In the Accounts pane, click the lock icon at the lower left corner of the window and enter your OS X admin password to authenticate.
-Click the plus button to add a new user account. Type the name Test in the Name and Short Name fields. Leave the Password, Verify, and Password Hint fields blank. Enable the checkbox for "Allow user to administer this computer," and click the Create Account button.
-System Preferences will inform you that you did not enter a password for the new user. Just click OK to create the account anyway. If a message about automatic login appears, click the button for "Keep Automatic Login."
-The new account has now been created. Quit System Preferences.
-Go to Apple menu > Log Out. After a moment you will see the login panel. Log in as the test user; if you are prompted for a password, just leave the password field blank and click Log In.
-Launch Digital Performer 6, and create a new, empty project. Add an audio track, and set a valid input and output for the track. Record-enable the track, and press record in the Control Panel window. Does Digital Performer begin recording audio to the track or does the application crash?

I was able to record using this technique without it crashing. What is my next step?

I just tried to record on a project that I have not opened for a long long time. I was able to record on it, and this made me think the problem was fixed. Then I tried to record on the same test project that we opened together, and I had the same crashing problem. I am only guessing but it seems like I should have made another binding decision when installing dp 6. I really do not know. What do you think?

When you tested Digital Performer in the new user account, was DP set to use the 896HD or the computer's built-in audio hardware?
Log in to your usual OS X user account. Quit Digital Performer if it is open. Go to /Users/your_username/Library/Preferences, and locate the folder named Digital Performer™. Move this entire folder to the desktop. Then launch Digital Performer 6.0, and create a new project. Before attempting to record audio, go to Setup > Configure Audio System > Configure Hardware Driver. In the list of audio devices, select Built-in Audio and then click the OK button. In the sequence, set a valid input and an valid output for one of the audio tracks. Record-enable that audio track and press record in the Control Panel window. Does Digital Performer begin recording audio to the track or does the application crash?

I did as you said to do and it crashed. I tried to do it with the 896 as the hardware driver as well and it crashed also. This has been four days since the problem began and I do not feel like we are any closer to repairing the problem. It is taking too long to resolve this. I know you are probably getting a lot of calls now because of the new system, but I do not feel like an emailed response every day is going to settle this issue as promptly as I need.
I have included the most recent crash log with this email.

I have deleted my preferences and that didn't work either.

Launch Digital Performer 6.0, and create a new, empty project. Save the project to the desktop. Go to Digital Performer menu > Preferences > Audio Options. In the Project File Format and Default File Format section, set the current project file format to Sound Designer II, set the Sample Format to 16 Bit Integer, and disable the Interleaved option. Click the Done button to confirm the settings.
In the sequence, add a new mono audio track and set a valid input and a valid output for it. Record-enable the track and press record in the Control Panel window. Does Digital Performer begin recording audio to the track or does the application crash? If the application crashes again, attach a new copy of the Digital Performer crash log from your user account to your next reply.

So now I can get it to record using sd ii 24 bit with the interleaved on. It will crash when I try to use the broadcast wave format. What does this mean?

I am afraid I am as far as I can go and I need suggestions.
Thanks For responding Frodo, you have really been there in the past. Do you have any ideas for what I should do next?

I really wish I had some suggestions for you. I don't even have DP6 so I can't even begin to offer any confirmed advice.
However, I have read that some users have overcome the fade problem "somehow". The workaround in DP5 was to delete the files in the Fades folder with the DP running and let DP do a fresh calculation.
For DP6 users, sonus seems to have overcome some aspect of this:
http://www.motunation.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=29818
That it "can" work could be an indication of one or more of the following:
1. Some glitch during installation
2. Some conflict with one or more DP5 code lines still residing on your machine. This, however, should have been eliminated by creating a new user account.
3. Some strangeness with OSX that often hangs onto old preferences (invisibly?) even when the user revises those preferences. Repairing permissions and total shut downs (as opposed to restarting) can kick things in mysteriously. Some have reported things being "fixed" after one shut down or after weeks of shut downs. Sometimes things just start working.
I know that this is a rather amorphous view of the situation, but I'm always stumped when a solution escapes MOTU's attempts.
The only other thing I can suggest is to do an uninstall and to start again by reinstalling DP6 on a new partition or startup drive where nothing else on that partition or drive would contain other wayward MOTU files (visible or invisible). At least at that point if the problem isn't solved entirely, there would be the one benefit of eliminating a bit of guesswork with troubleshooting where DP5 hadn't previously left its mark.
I would also start with NEW projects, NEW bundles, and NEW templates first before opening older projects which could introduce some incompatible element into the cleanly installed version. Getting DP6 working on its own is the first step. Bringing in older projects might be viewed as adding whole different layer of complexity to the process even where it might be taken for granted that doing so should "just work".
Dunno, Scott. Hope that helps in some way. One of these days I'll receive my copy of DP6 and may be able to share more concrete solutions with you. Even so, far be it for me to think that I could solve a problem for you which MOTU could not.

Scott,
I'm not sure this will help, but someone reported on another thread that completely removing DP5 files as recommended in his post has made his DP6 stable. The post is here:
