DP5 Unexpected Error : The Solution

Post by ng62gn »

Hello,

After installing DP5.01 I had some Unexpected Errors like: -8796, DP crash on open file, Meter Bridge, Consolidated Window & Drum Editor were completely blank. In Audio Bundles, only the buttons at the bottom of the window were visible... A real headache.

If you are still there, carrying with you the same problems, please don't blame DP for that ! (At least in my case)

Did you copy-paste your Key Code ? (I use to archive my Keys & serials) Bizarre, but this is the problem !

Solution:
You'll have to trash DP authorization file and then re-authorize it. But, remember, next time enter your Key Code by hand.

Go to and read the how to:
http://www.motu.com/techsupport/technot ... issionsFix

You can also use EasyFind (http://www.devon-technologies.com/download/index.html) to find the hidden "Auth-DigitalPerformer 5.0".
Trash this file and Authorize DP again (You'll need the original installation CD).
Again, enter the Key Code by hand and Voilà... Back to work.

Thanks
NG

Phlak.
Try this solution. Go to "USER/PREFERENCES/DIGITAL PERFORMER/Preferences" Dump the Preference file. Not the .plist file.
Might help

Hey guys,

I had the same problem several time.
Never really knew where it came from.

I thought the rescue would be as written above...but it didn't help.
Had the same Error after I completely re-installiert everything after deleting all MOTU/DP concerned files.

Luckyly I was able to remember what I did the last time short before I got the Error message again: I de-activated some fonts via Fontbook.
Guessing that DP also supports Japanese, I thought it would be a good idea to start on this issue:
I reactivated ALL Asian fonts (Japanese, Korean, Chinese) and everything works now!!!

Maybe that's the point?!

Now, there's the tip of the week: reactivate Asian fonts. Hmm. Simple, brilliant, to the point...

Thank you, thank you, thank you.
I too was getting the -8796 errors trying to open files create new etc.
MOTU had no idea and said the only thing I could do was create a new user account and use that to run DP. What a hassle.
I ended up reloading my operating system to get DP to work - this was about a month ago.
Well, today I thought I was doing myself a favor cleaning up my fonts. I removed all the Japanese. Chinese etc fonts.
Later, I went to start DP and it wouldn't work. Had to get a job done, so I made a new user account on my MAC and finished the job.

THEN I FIND THIS POST - great.

Actually, I got lucky on my first try. I simply reinstalled into Font book 1 font "AppleGothic" which is originally part of the Korean set. DP works.
I removed and reinstalled the font to make sure and DP doesn't work when it's gone, but works when it's there.
WHY DOESN'T MOTU KNOW THIS?
The font is located on your main hard drive/System/Library/Fonts
Thanks again.

Yes, correct: The font which is needed is Apple LiGothic
So you can try and de-activate the other Asian fonts. (I just did that and DP still runs. If problems occur, turn the Asian fonts back on )
I was too lazy to try the other day. I was just happy to have DP work again.

I really don't know what's up with the support.
I mailed with the German support a few times and I asked them if a certain font collection is needed: They answered I should re-install DP (what I did and it still didn't work).
This is very disappointing and a shame!

Support was probably unaware (and didn't assume) that any fotns had been removed. Not to defend the support team, but it's not exactly the first thing one would consider when troubleshooting.

Sometimes to find a needle in a haystack you have to burn the haystack!!

It would be nice if DP had an error message which identified the problem akin to : "Apple LiGothic Font is missing".

Sure, I agree with you BUT I asked the support if it could be a font related problem. The answer to that was 're-install DP'
