MOTU's DP CONTROL for iPhone up on App Store now!!!!!!!!

Post by James Steele »

I've been watching for it. Just posted tonight apparently. :woohoo:

http://bit.ly/dpcontrol" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

UPDATE 7/26/10: I have received permission from Magic Dave at MOTU to embed the DP Control demo video in this thread, so I'm adding it below. I'll also post it in the tutorials section!

------------------------------

DP Control Video
starring the one-and-only Magic Dave!

DP Control Description (from iTunes)

DP Control from MOTU Inc. allows you to control MOTU's Digital Performer audio workstation software over a WiFi network using your iPhone, iPad or third-generation iPod Touch.

Built specifically for use with Digital Performer, DP Control gives you easy access to the most important transport and mixer functions for tracking, simple mixing, and live performance.

DP Control works in both portrait and landscape orientations. Designed with comfortably large buttons and controls, DP Control can easily be used with only one hand by pressing buttons and swiping to new pages with your thumb.

Feature highlights:

* Real two-way communication — everything that you update in DP updates in DP Control, and vice versa.

* Editable time counter with selectable format (including real-time, SMPTE time, samples, and marker names).

* Main transport control and many other transport-related Control Panel functions (click, countoff, memory-cycle, etc.)

* Page-controlled, scrollable mixer with animated, recordable pan knobs and volume sliders, plus level meters and peak indicators.

* Solo, Mute, Record-enable, Play automation, Record automation and automation mode settings for each track.

* Track list for your DP project, complete with collapsible nested track folders and dynamically linked track organization that matches your currently open DP project on your Mac.

* Infinite undo, with a view that shows you the names of the next and previous tasks in your DP document undo history.

* Marker creation and naming.

* New Take, Previous Take, and Next Take functions that operate on all of the record-enabled tracks at once (essential for tracking drums).

* Take selection, by name, for individual tracks. Also New Take, Delete Take, and Rename Take for the current take on any individual track.

* Save function for saving changes made to the DP document.

Requirements:

- Compatible with iPhone, iPad, and third-generation iPod Touch
- Not compatible with first or second generation iPod Touch
- Requires Digital Performer 7.2 or later running on a Mac on the same WiFi network as DP Control

Hi James,
Thanks for the heads up! I've downloaded the app to my iPhone 3GS (IOS 4), DP 7.2 sees the device, the tracks, mixer etc., but the transport control doesn't do anything. If I change position on the Mac Pro, the iPhone reflects the change. It's just the transport that doesn't respond. Have you had this too?

Dear Charlie.... It's all working here

have you set up Control Surface in DP as follows???

In DP, Choose "Setup > Control Surface Setup"
Click on the "+" button next to "Driver"
From the Driver popup menu, choose "Open Sound Control"

Cheers

Stephen

PS having read your mail again it seems like you must have done that...... let me do some more brainstorming....

Transport controls working fine for me on both iPhone and iPad. I'm still on OS 3.1.2 on my iPhone.

Interestingly enough... it is working fine from my iPhone (original model), but is very sluggish and buggy when operated from my iPad...... all on the same network...... let's try restarting everything........

anyway, this is astoundingly well thought out and will be so useful!!!!

and free!!!!!!!

Thanks MOTU

One thing you will notice. If you do a save from the Mac keyboard the faders will disappear and then reload some seconds later.

James, how does the DP Control app look on the iPad? Is it the same as for iPhone or does it show more information etc?

The app shows up on the iPad just like on the iPhone, in other words it is not a dedicated version. Of course it can be expanded (like all iPhone apps), so it is larger and a bit clunky, but seems to look fine. Maybe they might release a dedicated version eventually????

No complaints though, this thing is brilliant!
