PJ, I plan to keep a disc partition with DP 5.0 and Waves and Auto Tune MAS to allow opening older projects easily. I have too long a plug list already, with Q1-10, etc. I tried the IMPORT method you used, and was able to open a project with Waves MAS plugs into 5.1 running Waves AU only. I was unab...

Worst case, you probably CAN rebuild. Import, then drag and drop all the soundbites into tracks, select all the soundbites and "Move to Original Time Stamp" under the Audio> Time Stamp menue. Then erase the ones you don't need. This comes in really handly when DP crashes after recording, b...

Sonic Modulator can do a pretty fair Leslie... I used it years ago to fatten up an anemic PC88 mod-wheel Leslie effect. Now we have plug in automation, which should allow us to record the Leslie signature speed change by adjusting appropriate speed parameters. I haven't used SM for years; doesn't it...

Thaks for your efforts here guys. Having recently moved to DP 5.1, I noticed the MAS Waves issue. Although I was glad to see we can use the AU version of the Waves plugs with DP, it does send a shiver down my spine as I anticipate opening old projects created while I had functioning MAS Waves plugs....

If you use the Apple-supplied Activity Monitor (in Utilities folder), you can see how your machine is using the four processors. Get the floating window going, have it stay on top, and monitor the CPU hit while you work with ANY software. Activity Monitor takes a very small share of CPU for its own ...

I chime in supporting the last two posts... HUGE difference from a Dual 1.2 G4 to Quad G5. I can't accurately quantify because I never had the machines side by side (having lost one to catastrophy) but I am running far deeper projects without difficulty now, and these are projects that I know would ...

Congrats on the new baby, Cat. If you or anybody ever has any interest in using your machine for anything other than DP, you could take the route I have, which is to partition the main system drive in to two or more partitions and install various tuned systems on each. I have three partitions on my ...

I guess we'll just have to wait and see if DP makes it to 64-bit before UB is retired... Of course, all the plugs would have to be re-coded as well. I'm not holding my breath. My system is working so nicely now, it pains me to consider doing it all again anytime soon. And, since this version of DP h...

Will Leopard turn the Quad PPC into the scream machine it was meant to be?
Without 64-bit applications to run, will we see any significant gains in perrformance?

We're in for a bumpy road. Getting into a Mac Pro comfortably is going to take major investments in peripherals, RAM, HD's, etc. Yes Mr. Frodo, you're so right. The fact that the upgrade path is strewn with so many potholes and pitfalls is frustrating. You hit it on the head: January 2008 will come...

Barefeats has a few thoughts on the new Mac Pro at http://barefeats.com/quad05.html I wonder if MOTU is gonna' have to rework the PCIe card again... Will graphics cards from the PCI-Express Dual-Core G5 Power Macs work in the Mac Pro? NO. Will graphics cards from the Mac Pro work in the Dual-Core G5...

Mr. C: You have to set up the BFD outputs into DP busses correctly, but once you do, you get a complete breakout for every drum (two each for snare and kick) plus the three stereo pairs, on your DP mixing board. It is a processor's delight! BFD is actually a great way to learn how to mix a real kit ...

No experience with Reason, but BFD works fine in 5.1 ReWire mode.
