Are there any scripting, macro, or automation functions that would do things like this, either in DP, or interacting with OSX? Any way to chain key commands and create new ones? Sorry, I can't figure this out myself -- STILL waiting for my copy of DP to arrive.

OK thanks. I assumed the patches I had before were from OSX. Maybe they were from old versions of Logic or Cubase. I'll wait and see what my DP package brings.

I recall in previous versions of OSX, there were libraries of MIDI patches for common synths. Don't think I've seen these for quite a while on any of my Macs.
