Re: DP 10 on Mac - Does this version bigger fonts?
To anyone who is wondering HOW you change the size of the font, etc., it's really simple. COMMAND +/- Just like other applications. It took me about a half hour of searching manuals to finally try that, just on intuition, and it worked. I'm sure the answer is there in the manual, but no need for you...

Re: VCA Tracks: What's the advantage over an Aux track?
I predict more visits from the ghost as the bell tolls One. Oooohooohoohooohoooo.... ask NOT for whom the bell tolls, it tolls for theeeeeheeeheeehehehe...[hack, cough, cackackcough...] Ah, s***! Can we dispense with the voice? I mean, it's harder to do the voice as a ghost, because technically I h...

VCA Tracks: What's the advantage over an Aux track?
Looking over DP 10, I'm finding that I don't full understand the VCA Track. It appears to add a fader for controlling the volume of one or multiple tracks, without changing their current automation lines. We already have a track that does that: the Aux track. Also the Master Track. You can route one...

Re: RIP engineer extraordinaire Jim Malloy at 87
Oh man... I've heard more of his projects than I can remember. He was everywhere. I guess we all gotta go sometime, but it's always sad to hear about legends like that finally leaving us.

Re: There’s an effing manual or How to Play Wind Instruments
PS: Sorry for the length of these posts. I don't mean to wear out my welcome here. In fact, I feel honored when someone reads even one of my posts from start to finish. It's just that I don't know how to tell these stories concisely, because they cover a lot of territory. Thanks for listening. Shoosh

Re: There’s an effing manual or How to Play Wind Instruments
While I don't put much stock in articles like that one, the author does hit on some points that always rankled me. Mention that you play sax, and immediately one's mind pulls up their own image of what that means. It can be anything from 60s rockabilly "Boots Randolph" to quiet intellectua...

Re: There’s an effing manual or How to Play Wind Instruments
Since we're talking about it, and since some people are skeptical, I'd like for you to indulge me as I demonstrate a practical application of the skills learned in the mouthpiece exercise. Let's take a passage in the Giga of the Bach partita for solo violin in D Minor. Since the written music goes b...

Re: There’s an effing manual
[edited for typos & clarity] I'm playing devil's advocate, here, but am also just being a little skeptical. I wonder what the test of playing the note on the sax, and removing the mouthpiece from the horn while continuing the note, and vice versa would reveal about this technique. I've never me...

Re: There’s an effing manual
Thanks Shoosh. I'm not a reed guy, but there's also good info there for any wind instrument and much of what you said about playing the mouthpiece also applies to brass. Good stuff!! Phil You're right, Phil. The same principles apply to all wind instruments. In practice, they can be very different ...

Re: There’s an effing manual
What is the secret to playing the sax? In a word, "voicing." But people have used that word for decades. It means one thing to one person and another thing to another person, and they nearly always misinterpreted it in actual practice. Historically, saxophone teachers were pretty much a h...

Re: There’s an effing manual
I have a lot of patience for students. The reason I quit teaching is that I would have been content teaching forever, and it was preventing me from moving on. I needed to be spending that time practicing extremely high-end stuff, but instead I was doing scales and arpeggios all day, or teaching them...

Re: The news of the Mac's death is being exaggerated
Well, OS X is already dead, for maybe two years now. It's now called macOS. :-) Is that a fact? If so, then we've come full-circle. Well, not FULL circle. We started on the mac with "System 1." Then System 2, etc., up to about System 7. Then it became MacOS 8, usually written OS8, OS9, an...

Re: There’s an effing manual
In 1981 I was getting big-league symphony gigs, and I was being asked to play at festivals and symposiums. Meanwhile, I was still teaching high school and junior high kids how to play the saxophone. There was something very frustrating about my playing at the time. I knew I was "good enough,&qu...

Re: Gibson Files Bankruptcy
Well, well. Who EVER could have predicted such a thing?... And the decline of guitarists may be balanced by a rise in keyboardists. It's too soon to tell. But I think the discipline and facility gained from each person's "10,000 hours" of practice will be rare... Shoosh Ok I'm gonna rambl...
