Re: MacBook Pro Overhaul - Help Needed
Thanks, Mike. Good feedback. I'm making the BIG jump to 64 bit and upgrading ALL the plugs that are 64 bit. The only ones that I'm losing at this point is the URS plugs and that's a downer cause I use Channel Strip Pro a good bit, but messaged Bobby Nathan and he said they are working on it, but Wav...

Re: Upgrading My DAW Computer - Looking For Advice
Honestly, Stuart, something here doesn't sound right. Call me mad, but a 12-core system like you have should eat this stuff for lunch. Is it an i7 processor? What's the speed of the frontside bus? What are your buffer settings? Have you tried your VI's with a different DAW on your system? I don't th...

Re: MacBook Pro Overhaul - Help Needed
I would love to put an SSD in my MacBook, but I just spent the whole wad on my upgrades! That's not a problem though as I'm using my 4TB Thunderbolt external drive. I reads at about 550Mb/sec. I'm more concerned about the software upgrade at this point.

MacBook Pro Overhaul - Help Needed
My audio partition is long overdue for an overhaul. I'm still on 10.6.8 and DP7.24 on a MBP Quad 2.4GHz i7, but most of my new plugs crash it (i.e. Slate and Waves). So, I just hunkered down and paid for all the upgrades to make the jump to 64 bit, but what is the best way to update my system and to...

Deletion of PCI Interfaces
While it is all very exciting to see what feels like long overdue TB audio interfaces, has anyone else noticed the deletion of the PCI interfaces from MOTU's site? Not that this is a big surprise, but it also represents a significant shift for those of us who have invested thousands into that platfo...

Re: Wow - No Brainer Deal on MH ChannelStrip $30
Any comments on how this plug sounds? I used to own it years and years ago, but MH wanted like $250 to upgrade it from V1 to V2. I was so irritated after having spent like $350 on it, I just dropped it. I did like it, but just can't remember what I had used it on or how it sounded. For $30 however, ...

Sorry, I meant just three finger drag. I mean you have to ½ tap to put your fingers on the pad, but yeah... that's what I meant

Re: MOTU LISTENS !!!
Instead of a double tap to drag, use the 3 finger drag. No tapping required. I hate clicking on the Trackpad. It's too difficult to hold it and move your finger unless you click with your thumb or other hand. I have everything set "soft." Tap instead of click; two finger scroll up and down...

Re: New Mac Pro coming this year is mind-blowing.
There are already Thunderbolt to PCIe chassis available. And FW is available through any TB adapter. What's the hang up?mikerbaker wrote:Well -its goodbye from me apple! No PCIe no firewire! Only thing that will keep me on mac now is a working t-bolt to pcie424 for my 24ios.
Looks like hack or win7 machine!!

Re: New Mac Pro coming this year is mind-blowing.
Ha ha! I predicted correctly. Modular computing. Last year I was having to make a significant upgrade to my gear. My need for portability and compatibility made me ditch my PCI system and G5 for a MBP and 896IIIHD Hybrid. Got a 4TB Thunderbolt drive to boot for blazing data throughput. Nailed it! I ...

Re: Edge Editing and Roll Tool
Regarding layering, make sure your "Overdub Recording" is turned of when you track the project. This will prevent the layering when you punch in on a single take. I can see why this really bothers you, but it is my preferred setting. It has a history and allows you to do some really cool t...

Re: Advantages of a Mac Pro "with DP"
Yeah, it's a beauty of a drive. It's a Lacie 4TB Raid with 7200RPM drives that are swappable. I haven't done much with it, but it very fast and gargantuan in size! Have to say, after having an iPad for a year, I actually like using Lion. It's smooth, fast, and intuitive. I don't understand all the f...

Re: Advantages of a Mac Pro "with DP"
Well, Shooshie, you may be right, but you're too late. As I already posted yesterday, I ordered my MBP/896mkiii/TB rig this week. See above for specs. I haven's sold anything off at this point, but the G5, iMac, HD192, 2408 (maybe), and iPad (maybe) are all about to go. Part of it just boils down to...

Re: Advantages of a Mac Pro "with DP"
All valid points, Nightwatch, and things I did consider. Some of my thoughts were I don't use soft synths much and what I do use I print. Granted when I get to running 64 bit apps (no hurry here) I'll want to max out the MBP, but that will be far more RAM than I've ever used. A SSD would be nice, bu...

Re: Advantages of a Mac Pro "with DP"... I pulled the trigge
Okay, so I made up my mind and ordered a new rig. Should be here tomorrow. I unexpectedly came into some money so I was thrilled to be able to pull the trigger... but I made the leap. I decided to forego the Mac Pro and get a 15" 2.4GHz Quad i7 Macbook Pro with 750Gb HD and antiglare, hi-res sc...
