did you try changing the "adsr" settings for it using the "faders" on the right hand side?

david, when you open bpm as a plug-in in your normal sequencer and repeat the test in that sequencer do you have the same issue?

can you check it for me? if not can you then take that recorded MIDI file and open it in bpm and see what happens.
