Re: Recording Guitar Rig MIDI data?
I have a MIDI track assigned to an instance of Kontakt (which is running the guitar VI) and Guitar Rig is assigned as an effect to Kontakt in the DP mixer. Guitar Rig is an audio plug-in and can't be assigned to a MIDI track. But I'm able to control any parameter in GR in real time using a MIDI cont...

Recording Guitar Rig MIDI data?
I'm using the Novation SLMkII as a MIDI controller and I'm trying to record Guitar Rig MIDI data such as volume swells with guitar VI's like Electr6ity. So my work flow is... 1. record a MIDI guitar track. 2. Assign a MIDI controller to the volume swell module in Guitar Rig. 3. Using 'overdub', try ...

Re: How Good Are The Synth Capabilities In M5 3?
Ok now I'm impressed. I think MOTU should really market this aspect of it, which is huge. Most of the demo videos I've seen seem to focus on the included boring sample libraries that don't really separate it from the competition. I think a lot of electronic musicians and sound designers would love t...

Re: How Good Are The Synth Capabilities In M5 3?
I own a K2000 w/sampling option (circa 1993!) and I used to be able to get some amazing sounds by sampling my own sounds and then running the samples through the K2's powerful synth engine. For example, a snippet of an african tribe singing backwards and running it through some crazy synth patch and...

Re: How to edit solo MIDI tracks? - DP7
Ok so maybe I'm not explaining myself correctly since no one has replied. How about this: When you're in the MIDI editor and you click on a MIDI note, you can hear the sound of the instrument's note, yes? Well when I solo the track, I can no longer hear the sound of the instrument when I click on a ...

How to edit solo MIDI tracks? - DP7
This may be a bonehead question, but when I have a MIDI track solo'd, and then I go to the MIDI editing window, I can't hear the notes when I click on them in the timeline. When I un-solo the track(s) I can hear them just fine when editing. So a typical workflow might be: solo a MIDI track in the mi...

Re: Best way to migrate to a new Mac Pro?
Thanks everyone for the tips. I've been really bad about keeping all my install files and serial #'s in one place. I realize clean installing is the best way to go, but what a nightmare! Mike, you mentioned permissions problems. Would repairing permissions w/the Disk Utilty fix it or is it more comp...

Re: Which refurbed Mac would be a smarter buy...
Sorry, I meant to say multiple processors, not cores. There's a lot people out there saying that, for example, their 2009 2.2ghz dual processor 8 core machine is better than a 2012 single processor 3.3ghz 6 core machine.
Benchmarks have shown that this is not the case.

Re: Opinions on Yamaha CP-33
I own EW QL Pianos (my fav so far but still not perfect), TruePianos, Alicias Keys, lots of PianoTeq, Ivory Uprights, and the Kontakt pianos. All of these fall short, especially if I'm trying to get the Elton John / Billy Joel chord heavy/rock style piano sound. But as I mentioned it could very well...

Re: Opinions on Yamaha CP-33
Hi Jim... I own the CP-300 which is the same keyboard but w/built-in speakers. If you're a piano player, you'll love this board. It's the most realistic feel I've ever tried. It's definitely not plasticky or clicky like just about every other controller out there. The internal sounds are worthless f...

As far as I know, having multiple cores is only advantageous if running apps that take advantage of multiple cores... like video rendering or encoding for example. I don't think DAWs utilize the multiple cores. It seems a fast processor and tons of RAM is what matters most in the DAW world. I recent...

Re: Holy crap who's buying all the Slate plugins today??
I almost got sucked into the sale, but I'm pretty happy with Ozone5 for mastering and all my MCDSP plugs for compression and warmth. The online demos of the Slate plugs haven't really blown me out of the water.

Re: Have Plans for newer Mac 2.26 8core, need some advice pl
Hi Doc, I'm in the exact same situation as you. I'm currently running DP 7.24 on a Mac Pro 1,1, but I just ordered a 2012 Quad-core 3.2Ghz 5,1 and plan to deck it out with 32GB of RAM. I'm wondering if for starters, I should still continue using the MP 1,1 as a host for DP7 and use the 5,1 as a slav...

Best way to migrate to a new Mac Pro?
I'm about to retire my 2006 MP (which is only 32-bit capable) and move to a newer machine. The thought of having to reinstall over 6 years of accumulated apps, libraries, plugins, etc, makes me want to weep like a little girl. Has anyone had any luck with Migration Assistant? Please tell me I won't ...
