Re: Question about auto save when “checking” a file
I've had the same questions, but have not been rigorous enough to test it. But I have a reason: when I open an ongoing file, I always save it as a new file for that day. When a project is finished, I may go back and remove all but the first, last, and a few in between versions, but I'll literally h...

stick to the music, you'd make a terrible inspirational speaker. and i don't really understand your other post - i'm not selling anything. just an observer...maybe tone down the condescension a little bro

Re: OS X Mountain Lion Beta?
I honestly don't see any problems with the scenario that can't be addressed with higher bandwidth internet connections and new compression schemes for audio. PCM is so...1980s...and I'm not one to knock old techs-i mixdown to 1/4'' tape and track to cassette 50%of the time. Also it's not a fun, some...

Re: OS X Mountain Lion Beta?
I'm looking forward to iOS and OSX becoming one system. People keep fearing that the Mac Pro is going to turn into an iPad. What they fail to acknowledge is that this transfer is going in the other direction as well...the iPad is becoming more like the Mac Pro. It will soon have a quad-core processo...

Re: DP8 announced: 64 bits and available for Windows!
DP 7 works great under lion. More stable than 10.6.8 in my experience. I look forward to DP 8, and getting to use it on PC or Mac. I wonder how performance will compare between the two? That should be interesting.

Can't find authorization file in 10.7.2
Hi all, I just got a new MacBook Pro with Lion preinstalled. I'm moving to a portable setup after my not-so-trusty-i-guess Power Mac G5 2.5 Dual developed a coolant leak and croaked. Anyway, I've got my DP7 install disc, i've downloaded the 7.24 update from Motu's website, but I'm having issues with...

Re: Mix Prepping for ProTools. Plugins transfer.
I send mixes to PT engineers all the time. Some mentioned "freeze" but I don't like "freeze" because it takes mono tracks and turns them into stereo tracks which is really, really annoying. DP 8 should have a nice "Render FX" command hopefully. So what I do takes a litt...

Re: What is and what isn't 32bit float?
i dont use 32-bit float, i do half of my tracking on cassette tape--but i am a man of science and like to know how stuff works--i think the OP wanted to know how 32-bit float is useful and how it works, and I came up with a scenario where, mathematically speaking, recording at 32-bit will possibly s...

Re: What is and what isn't 32bit float?
david - everything you said here is perfectly obvious to me, and your 'plastic bits in water' analogy is plain silly. i'm talking about processing done to signals before it gets written to disk. An 828mk3 can take a 24-bit sample, apply compression to it in the 32-bit sphere (again DP is nowhere in ...

Re: What is and what isn't 32bit float?
while most A/D converters available to us work at a fixed bit-depth (usually 24-bit) some of these converters may have on board DSP that operate at 32, 64, or even higher bit-depths. If you use these processes destructively and record the result in DP, I imagine it'd be smarter to work at 32-bit so ...

Location of Stock Apple AU Plugs
Does anyone know where the component files for the Apple AU plugins (the default ones that come with OSX - AUGraphic EQ, AULimiter, AUReverb etc) are located? I'd like to disable them completely, but cannot seem to find their location...spotlight is no help here.

Re: DP7 - Airwindows, Apple, and UAD plugins
SOLVED sort of! has something to do with "where" DP is searching for installed plugins. I assumed it was always in Library/Audio Plugins/Components, and this should be true. but over the course of 6 years, duplicate copies of plugins have gotten installed in user-only Library folders, or o...

Re: DP7 - Airwindows, Apple, and UAD plugins
thanks, yea he can't help because its all AU plugins including UAD plugs, as well as Apple's own bundled audio plugins that are unresponsive to mousing. It's something with DP and...i dont know. I'm going to have to brave MOTU support, but something tells me they might not have an answer...i tried i...

Re: DP7 - Airwindows, Apple, and UAD plugins
yea, i got the impression pretty quick that i was alone on this. next step is to try it on clean install of osx, hopefully it's not something related to the combo of UAD cards and my old Powermac G5. I love working on the thing, and otherwise DP7 was really snappy compared to ver5. oh airwindows plu...
