The news of the Mac's death is being exaggerated
Don't rush to predict the Mac's death sentence... Oh boy. It's another article predicting the death of the Mac and OS X. When it comes to Apple, you will always be right if you predict change, someday. But to those who predict that the Mac is going into retirement, moving from Mojave to "Sun C...

Re: What is Cocoa view?
Once upon a not-too-distant time, there were two sides to the Mac OS: Carbon & Cocoa. Cocoa was the blisteringly new version of an Objective C type language, tailored for the new Mac version of Steve Jobs' old NextStep OS. Carbon was the final evolution of the old MacOS line that had been design...

Re: DSP Quattro 5 is out
Glad to see the update. I still use DSP Quattro pretty much exclusively for final mastering. It crashes a lot. I liked Waveburner before DSPQ, which was a pretty stable app, and very useful. There are things about DSPQ that I need to learn more about, because using it as I expect it to work sometime...

You've got my full attention, James!
Tell me how to upload it. I think I still have an FTP client around here somewhere. If not, I can surely download one.

Re: The Digital Performer Tips Sheet
Could a search/replace like that fix all 12 pages of the Tips Sheet in one go? The Dropbox Public Folder directory is mostly flat, with some multiple-image posts occupying another folder which in turn occupied the Public Folder. File names used here nearly always began with "DP." From the ...

Re: Suggestion Box for DP 10 MOTU Line
“Please, PLEASE, add absolute grid snapping! A basic, but very essential need that has gone unaddressed in DP for far too long. I agree with you, now. I've always been on the opposite side of that argument, because an absolute grid seemed so much like the toy DAWs such as Musicworks, from 1984, and...

Re: How to move audio in tracks view vertically Only?
I'm in the habit of depressing the SHIFT KEY for any kind of dragging of data. Vertical or horizontal, I use the Shift Key so that it only moves on one axis at a time. If you make a mistake, UNDO is your friend. If you don't know how far back you made the mistake, the UNDO HISTORY Page is your frien...

Re: Help! - Playing track super slow (maybe half-speed)
On the left of the transport control are the fast forward and slow forward buttons. If you hit Play, then Pause, then Slow Forward - then Pause again, the transport will play at the slow forward speed. Hitting stop (for some reason) at this point does not reset the transport to normal speed (I don't...

Re: The Digital Performer Tips Sheet
To all: I returned to the wreckage of my posts known as the Tips Sheet tonight, and was once again devastated to see all the work which had gone to waste because of the changes at Dropbox, the internet file-hosting company. It's been a while, now, but I never figured out a way to make it work again....

Re: Sweetwater Virtual Piano - RESULTS - SPOILER ALERT
I finally took a listen to these yesterday, several times each, and couldn't get over how artificial ALL of them sound! And probably for the reasons Dave mentioned earlier, in terms of how the files were generated. I find several of them artificial, as I stated in my reply above, and probably for t...

Dog? I coulda sworn it was a chicken.
Laurel or Yanni?
Blue or Beige?
Butter or Chiffon?
Chicken or Dog?
Imagine a beige dog that barks "laurel" or blue chicken that crows "yanni." Pretty soon, there will be a quantum theory of fake news. It's all relative!

Re: DP's a hit with "Celtic Woman"
That's good to know, and accurate as well. When I started out, I was accustomed to buying saxophones, flutes, clarinets and such from California Musical Instruments. So, they were the first place I called when I wanted to try my luck with electronic stuff. I got transferred to someone I didn't know,...

Re: Gibson Files Bankruptcy
Well I know Guitar Center is in major financial trouble as well. From what I've read, if they go down for the count, it could have a major ripple effect. There's also the larger phenomenon that guitar-based music isn't so dominant any more. A lot of youngsters don't want to learn an instrument. The...

Re: Temporarily half deaf... Terrified of going to the ENT
A friend told me about an "ear candle." It was the most comical thing I ever heard. No, I never tried it, and I've never even seen one, but my friend's experience was hilarious. I can't tell it like he did, especially not in print, but imagine a rather large man with beard and with a burni...

Re: Anyone here get migraines?
I've had nearly continuous headaches since early 1988. A large percentage of them are migraines. Turns out, I get three kinds of headaches. Migraine, sinus, and another kind associated with neck pain. Lucky me. These have significantly affected my work for decades, and intermittently before that. I ...
