The effects definitely cannot be used in DP. They are only for the CueMix application, and only for MOTU interfaces which have onboard DSP for the effects. For example, the 896 mk3 has the effects available, but not my 896 HD. I don't know if there is a list of devices which will work with the CueMi...

Turning down all the channels is a much better idea. Mixing without the limiter is also a good idea as is leaving a lot more headroom for the mastering stage - like 6db at least. Ugh. I was thinking of buying DP for some post-work, which probably will be using 23.98 fps - I had no idea it wasn't supported until I read your post.
