Re: New Macbook Pro
What about that optical to eSATA conversion OWC was doing with the iMACs? This is what I'd consider first as you could then run a port multiplier eSATA 2.5" or 3.5" quad enclosure off this 1 SATA buss. Mercury Elite AL-Pro, Granite Digital, or other with independent mode and raid on/off. T...

Re: microphone
Lot's of good advice but unless you deal with the standing wave and tune the heads accordingly the band will hate the result. Regardless of mics. I'd try hard to close mic the kick, snare, hh w/ at least one overhead. Bass DI. Vox DI. Condenser for hh. A bargain now is the discontinued Sennheiser e6...

Re: What's the best inferface?
Anyway I'd choose the mic first. Noise in your environment is often the deciding factor here (tracking vocals). My other comment is compatibility with platform and DAW app. If you plan on using a Windows laptop down the road (choose USB-2 but avoid USB-1.1). Otherwise I would stay with 1394a (one ca...

Re: Best Backup Drive for the Money?
You can probably run a WD Caviar Blue for 2 hours but not any longer IMHO. Dang enclosure gets hot. SuperDuper clones can take a long long time. However I am unsure if they will boot Lion. G-5s not all chipsets will boot (Oxford 934 will). If the WD Green drives run even cooler go for it. Often Best...

Re: Best Backup Drive for the Money?
Avoid a plastic enclosure as the screws will strip and it takes 30 minutes to swap a drive. The 'Pro Monsoon' enclosures are aluminum USD $34. http://eshop.macsales.com/item/EZ%20Quest/N27300/ Decent enclosure for SATA 3.5" drives (will boot a Mac w/ SuperDuper clone). WD Caviar Blue (not Black...

Typically what is the policy on new manuals? Use the 'help menu' if staying on a Macintosh in pdf form? Seems to me there will be many new preferences with mac/pc compatibility perhaps a new manual is needed? I read somewhere VST-3 was written to be cross-compatible with AU but I suspect with Mounta...

Re: New Trojan can install without password
This is just the tip of the proverbial iceberg. What is mind blowing is Camino developers had removed the java plug-in at 2.1 then w/ 2.2 disabled all global Mac internet plug-ins for security reasons. But why Fx removed the option to disable the java plug-in feature still found in Safari or earlier...

Re: New Trojan can install without password
I would not trust Little Snitch btw there are Mac only infections that disable outbound rule-sets. PPC users at the moment must do this detection work manually. However ClamXav 2.0 (10.5 on up is available)! ---> Flashback.G on Tiger search your shared folder for an invisible file with a suffix of ....

Re: New Trojan can install without password
Most important thing is to not freak out and download just any code or trust that an email link is legit. Apple's solution is to sandbox all third party apps in the future since I don't work for apple I'll just say, the JAVA hack (tabbed browser hack) has been around a long time and a Cisco Brand ro...

Re: Best usage for solid state drive
Are the OWC drives decent quality anyone? And do the SSDs SATA-III pose problems mixed with SATA II controller (as in the Sonnet Tempo eSATA express 34 card) or internal drives mixed with Caviars or Ultrastars? Remember that glitch with SATA II drives in the early G-5 (which was a 1.5 controller). S...

Re: So how can i convert all the cool sampler formats?
+ 1 Thank you. I have run into the Fat 32 naming problem, but as of Tiger the Mac OS gives one a warning why it can't be copied to Fat 32. Hugy if a sample like Alicia Keys (12 gigs and 11 layers) at 44.1k. I was trying to figure how much loads into ram. Say 4 notes per single sample... so that's 22...

http://www.waves.com/content.aspx?id=201 I would get a linear DAW for PC that'll support Waves Version 9 Plugins? There's list of supported DAWs at Waves website (version 9 requires your own Thumb Drive to be mounted or their plugin will not instantiate. You are going to clean up the mono files righ...

Re: ResEdit & lost resource forks? Oldschool Macheads?
The original Oxford 9-1-1 Macally you all remember used the Mac serial cable for power. The 4 pins started losing contact and it glitched (only 2 are hot). OWC reselling non-fitting 1394a cables with enclosures? They wiggle in my MBP when an Apple Firewire cable fits snugly. This is the age of Web 3...
