It is definitely not a subjective thing...listen to where the downbeat is - it is either after every 3 beats or after every six. If the snare drum falls on the 4th beat, for example, chances are that you are in 6/8.

I don't know if I'm missing something, but DP 4.52 has a multi-bounce feature which is perfect for this application. After setting up all of the different tracks, and/or stems that you want to bounce, you can let dp do the work while you are out getting a latte. Perhaps this will help next time.
