Re: DP's notation abilities for orchestral work question

But word processing programs only deal with letter symbols which form words. Notation programs deal with symbols that form pitch, rhythm, dynamics, articulations, instructions, and also WORDS! How do you expect a music notation program to be as simple as a word processor? And, btw, I really don't th...

Re: DP's notation abilities for orchestral work question

AND that DP should NOT be your notation editor. It is just not refined enough to put parts down in from of professional musicians and give them what they are used to looking at. For a quick lead sheet for yourself or at home...maybe. But for orchestral work...no in my opinion. Brian, I couldn't agr...

Re: DP's notation abilities for orchestral work question

Yes, it's an interesting time for notation programs. Avid has seemed to "let go" to some degree of Sibelius but the main two programmers were hired by Steinberg to create a new notation program that will hopefully be the next evolutionary step for what would have been Sibelius. Rumor has i...

Re: DP's notation abilities for orchestral work question

OK- my 2 cents... I have worked as a professional orchestrator and copyist for over 20 years now in L.A., and I was all about Finale for the first 10-15 years. I went kicking and screaming when I had projects foisted upon me where I was told it had to be done in Sibelius, but this was back at Sibeli...

Re: 2013 MOTU Users NAMM Dinner!

I'm going to be at NAMM that Friday, so if I stay there late enough I'll try to make it by. I usually get a throbbing headache after about 3 hours from sensory overload! But the dinner sounds like fun!

Re: Roland JV1080 sounds for Kontakt etc?

Thanks so much for that generous offer but my main concern was that simple "Warm Pad" sound, which I think I have covered now between the Kontakt MKS-20 and also some great banks of synths from Hollow Sun for Kontakt. Have a great holiday!

Hey, I just wanted to let any of you that were missing the good ol' Warm Pad sound from the 1080 that a new Kontakt library of the Roland MKS-20 just came out and I think it sounds pretty dang good! Go to this site: http://store.gospelmusicians.com/MKS-20/ and in the top video locate at @ 22:00 to h...

Re: Magic Dave/Hal leonard DP book!

I received it a couple of days go. It looks very good but it is as MD says, a guide for beginners so it may not offer a lot of new ideas for some of you experienced MotuNation-ers. But it's very well done and even though I've been using Performer since 1985 there were still a few things in there tha...

Re: Magic Dave/Hal leonard DP book!

I dunno- you guys may be over thinking this! The Amazon site initially said there were 2 copies in stock but more were on their way soon when I first saw this so maybe more have arrived from Hal Leonard? I ordered one from an independent discounter via Amazon for $11 + shipping and I just got an ema...

Magic Dave/Hal leonard DP book!

Hey there- I'm sorry if this has already been posted but I just saw that Magic Dave has a new book out published by Hal Leonard called "The Power in Digital Performer"! I just ordered it as I'm always sure to learn new stuff from MD! Here's an Amazon link: http://www.amazon.com/Power-Digit...

Re: Roland JV1080 sounds for Kontakt etc?

thanks for the offer Mike, but I just don't know when I'll have time to sample it. I was looking on Ebay and I can get a 1080 for @ $200 so I may just end up doing that and get back to some good ol' fashioned MIDI hardware! It's been a few years now since I had any MIDI modules hooked up to my compu...

Re: Roland JV1080 sounds for Kontakt etc?

How frustrating- I just tried to find Redmatica and you're right- it seems Apple bought the company and then shut it down from what I can tell on the web. Thanks Apple!! :mumble: Well, if I find someone with this app I'll buy a used 1080 and get my fav sounds sampled. Or if I get really industrious ...
