Beachballs on the reg

Hi, I'm curious if anyone has tips on addressing the spinning beachballs that I've been encountering enough to make me write this post. They always resolve but sitting for 30-60 seconds after copying or pressing record or some other mundane task really kills the mood. Specs: [*] M2 Mac mini [*] 16g ...

Re: Mac "cleaning" app?

I'm a CleanMyMac X fanboy, myself.

As for replacing CPUs, I did that way back in the G3/G4 days and it caused major problems with ProTools LE. Presumably things have gotten better by now but caveat emptor.

Re: audio inputs gone... RESOLVED

I vaguely remember getting bit by this.

Unbelievable that DP doesn't present a modal saying "you need to enable this in settings".

Re: DP12 release date?

I'm thinking they might be going to just Performer (sans Digital) as the name in the next round. That might change up the numbering. The DP resources are littered with references to Performer (sans Lite and sans Digital) and they seem to be devoting a fair amount of attention to P Lite classes. Tot...

Re: Question about RAID drives...

FWIW, my praise of Backblaze has gone down quite a bit. I'm confident and grateful that my data is safe on their servers, but this is what's gone down since I ordered a restoration drive ($180) ( bold for irritating stuff): Ordered the drive day before Thanksgiving; confirmation page mentioned watch...

Re: Question about RAID drives...

Thanks for the info, Mike -- much appreciated. I've been using WD drives (normal external drives) for years as well and haven't had any real issues until this latest debacle with a MyBook. You mention software RAID. The Gylph drive is a single unit with its own RAID switches on the back. I assume th...

Re: Question about RAID drives...

Thank you Markus, that's where my head started going this morning (use the RAID for backup). Appreciate the confirmation.

I'll probably use the big 8tb HDD for the time being but appreciate the SSD advantages. And it's amazing how cheap drives are now.

Question about RAID drives...

Over the Thanksgiving weekend, my 2tb studio work drive stopped mounting. Thankfully I have Blackblaze and all my data is safe. I ordered a restore drive and it arrived yesterday. Praise for Backblaze. >>> After the panic subsided, I bought a Glyph 2-disk external drive and set it up as a mirrored R...

Re: Compact desktop monitor manager + headphone amp?

Nope, just 1 headphone for myself. I'm currently running tracks out of DP to an analog board that has a headphone jack in it, which gets the Main L-R mix. I do a lot of solo tracking sitting next to an amplifier, so I was thinking if I got something like the presonus, I could flip between the Main L...

Re: Compact desktop monitor manager + headphone amp?

Thank you for replying, much appreciated. That's where I was looking, but I had a price filter on, weeding out the ones with built-in headphones amps. This PreSonus is a bit extra, but fits the bill nicely.

Compact desktop monitor manager + headphone amp?

Does anyone know of a Mackie Big Knob / Heritage Audio Baby RAM-style monitor manager with a built-in headphone amp? I'm coming up empty.

In praise of the MOTU 24Ao

My first interface circa 2000 was the ProTools Digi001. ProTools LE during the OS 9 -> OS X transition was a nightmare of bugs, crashes, and corrupted sessions, and I finally ditched it ~2005 for a MOTU Traverer Mk1 and Digital Performer. I ran that into the ground, and it eventually gave up ~3 year...

Re: Fine tune Audio I/O Timing

Resurrecting this thread instead of starting a new one... I'm using DP, a Motu 24Ao, an analog mixer, and an ART Tubeopto 8 (8ch mic pre) to make a loop from DP out to a mixer and back into DP. Here's the chain: DP --> Mac mini -- USB --> Motu 24Ao --> Analog mixer -- Main outs --> ART Tubeopto 8 --...
