Re: Traveler Mk3 SMPTE Bug?
While they recommend the latest version of the OS I would go ahead and try the new driver with your OS version. It will solve your problem and likely work just fine. If not you can always delete it and revert to your current driver.

Re: Setting Peak Limiter Ceiling at -2 Master fader
First inter-sample overs refers to the analog signal constructed by the D to A conversion filters. The MOTU metering is digital and does not take this into account. SSL offers a free plug called X-ISM that will calculate likely inter-sample overs. In reality every DAC will vary. You are correct that...

Re: FabFilter Pro-L Limiter GET ON IT
Fab Filter is indeed fabulous. Fast intuitive interface, 64 bit math, instant bypass that doesn't change delay time, MS mode and volume and pan. Try automating changes during a mix. Wow! It is amazing to realize how much more extreme filtering can be accomplished in linear phase mode than zero laten...

Re: DC power your Traveler
I use the 4 pin locking power connection. - pin 1 + pin 4 I have 3*6 volt 4 Amp Hour sealed gel cell batteries in series but anything from 12 V through 24 V will work. I float charge the batteries from a regulated linear supply at 22.7 Volts Matcher what did Black Lion do in terms of modifications? ...

Re: DC power your Traveler
I rarely use buss power except in an emergency. There are too many stories of people loosing there firewire ports. Computer power is likely to be even noisier and will be affected by anything else on the buss. There are some powered hubs that might be an improvement but pure DC is hard to beat.

Re: Ext Word Clocks - No point unless syncing other digital
The strengths and weaknesses of analog, particularly vinyl, and digital are different. The flaws tend to add and the strengths to balance. I own several copies of a Ry Cooder performing the soundtrack of Paris Texas. One of the vinyl pressings is from an analog master and the other from a DAT master...

Re: Ext Word Clocks - No point unless syncing other digital
Although I agree with much of what is in the video, and delight in recognizing how identified and misled by my beliefs I can be, I still must mention that listening with Sony 7506 headphones from a mostly stock 2408 Mk 3 I correctly identified every example up to the phase demonstration where it was...

Re: Ext Word Clocks - No point unless syncing other digital
It seems that the assumption still exists that the clocking circuit in a MOTU interface is of the quality and type that can not be improved by the application of an external clock. This is not the case. Below is a quote from the Black Lion site referring to MOTU interfaces. "A second weak spot ...

Re: Ext Word Clocks - No point unless syncing other digital
Oh bye the way, since it can take from several seconds to well over a minute for something like the Traveler to slew and stabilize when switched to an external clock reference, depending on the design settings of the phase locked loop and the difference between the two clocks both absolutely and in ...

Re: Ext Word Clocks - No point unless syncing other digital
Dan is right but he was speaking from a theoretical design point of view. As has been pointed out most of the MOTU gear is designed to work in adaptable ways, slaving to external digital sources, at multiple sample rates, even time code. A result of all of this flexibility, certainly the Traveler an...

Re: Ext Word Clocks - No point unless syncing other digital
I use an old Aardsync. Both my Traveler and 2408 MK3 sound better running off of it than off of their internal clocks. Tighter more extended bass, silkier top end. It is true that the clock nearest the ADC and DAC will have an advantage, so use the clock in your recording or monitoring interface and...

Traveler Mk3 SMPTE Bug?
I am a long time traveler owner. I decided to get a new Traveler Mk3. Testing it, I can't get it to read SMPTE. It generates fine, but wont read. Audio MIDI doesn't show SMPTE as a clock source. In the SMPTE setup there is no SMPTE / SMPTE setting. This is true on both my G4 laptop and a new mac Min...

DC power your Traveler
I am posting this here rather than in the hardware section because it applies to Mac and PC users. If you have a Traveler try running it off of batteries. I connected 3 * 6 Volt 4 Amp/Hour led acid Gell Cell batteries in series to get 18 Volts and connected via the 4 pin power connection. I was on l...
