Re: Destructive Record anyone?
I used to do audio books, when they were still called "books on tape." Yes, they were recorded on tape. I got pretty fast with a razor blade and 1/4". You end up with a lot of splices and a large pile of spilled out-takes on the floor. Then I went to an early DAW called the "Soun...

Re: Record automation is acting weirdly
In "at least one" other DAW, there is a function to "write to end" on stop. This would keep your automation at the last written state when you resumed playback. You can mimic this function in DP by going to the last written automation and taking a snapshot at that point. There is...

Re: Destructive Record anyone?
Regarding "destructive record" for punch in, DP does not do that. In fact, I wonder if Pro Tools really does. It sounds absolutely stupid to me. Why would anyone risk a perfectly good take with destructive recording in punch ins, which are notoriously difficult to get perfect the first ti...

Re: Destructive Record anyone?
No destructive record. Not necessary. I don't understand when you say it writes a new file. DP writes new markers to the original audio files. Wasted disk space? Not hardly. Do a get Info. I just did on a long 2-track live recording project. The Audio Files are 1.6Gig - it's a single file about 120...

Destructive Record anyone?
I thought of putting this in the B2D thread, but decided to start a new one. I was working on a fairly simple mix yesterday of a middle school play that I recorded. Audio only, not too big a production, but I needed to listen through it in real time to mix it. I would really like to print the mix as...

Re: Ultralite mk3 power down disconnects FW drives
Correction - the Ultralike mk3 is NOT the last FW item in the chain - it is in the "middle": laptop > FW800 out to first Glyph drive, which has a FW400 out to the Ultralite mk3 AND FW800 out to the next Glyph drive. That certainly explains your drive disconnect error message; turning off ...

Re: 828MKIII Reverb
It's good for giving the vocalist a little space in the cans. Nothing special, and not very flexible as far as settings. But it is worth having it just to avoid setting up an external reverb unit in Cue Mix with it's second set of sends and returns.

Re: 828MK3 link two sets 8pre with ADAT trouble - Help!!
I'll try to sort this out. Your noise problem is the result of running individual clock on each unit. I'm not sure what I propose will work with 2 8 pre's, but I know it will work with one. To avoid digital snaps, pops, etc, all interfaces must run from a common clock. The easiest way to do this wou...

Re: new 828x with Thunderbolt...
Most of the FW800 devices actually just run at 400, but have 800 ports for convenience. Including MOTU I was bummed out by that "little detail" when I was checking out an 896 MkIII Hybrid...when anything on the buss is running at 400, everything else on the bus (such as external FW drives...

Re: Clicks: 8pre as optical converter connected to 896mk3
Be careful with your clock settings. I have the same setup, and use the 896 mk3 hybrid as master clock. The 8pre is clocked from the 896 via TOSLINK (a 2 channel optical digital connection), while the 8pre outputs go into the 896 via ADAT. In my DP system settings, I can change sample rate and both ...

Re: Help w Inputs
So you're feeding the MOTU into the Symphony via ADAT? There are a whole bunch of Symphony configurations on Apogee's website. Which setup do you have? Maybe yours doesn't pass ADAT inputs directly out and maybe merges them with the available analog outputs? Just guessing here. Sounds like a driver ...

Re: Too Low Levels?
Front panel inputs are mic/instrument, not mic/guitar. I know, a guitar is an instrument, but that 1/4" jack is line level, like for a synth or other amplified source. You might get enough level going in from a pedal board, but you really need to get a hotter signal in there, like maybe from a ...

Re: Mach 5 distortion? Resolved!
Just an update to close this thread: Turns out my 8pre that I had only been using as an ADAT converter into my 896 HD Hybrid (which I just sent off to have the display screen repaired) has a bad analog output that was causing the distortion. I hooked up everything into my old Traveler interface and ...

What are you doing up so early? Thanks for the reply. Have updated drivers, haven't done permissions. Will try that tonight.

Mach 5 distortion?
I upgraded to Mach 5 v3 (and recently 3.2) a while ago, but haven't really played with it much. I opened it up last night and all the samples are distorted. It sounds like a digital clocking error, but I have no indication that is the case. Setup is pretty simple, just an 8 pre FW on internal clock....
