Re: Building an External Music Studio Building

Your location (with woods in the background) doesn't appear to demand a lot of acoustic isolation, which makes things easier. Drywall would provide superior isolation, but if you don't need it, who cares? Unless you're doing 2-layers of drywall plus high-density fiberglass in the wall cavity, drywa...

Re: Building an External Music Studio Building

I didn't do any of the construction, but I did lay carpet, etc.

Also, I learned it's cheaper to do the interior walls and ceiling with prefinished tongue-and-groove pine than to do drywall (by the time you do tape/mud/paint), so I saved some dough there.

Thanks! (Old interior photo before I got a bigger monitor and Mac Studio.)

(Cost was about $30k, which included the cost of trenching in clean power from the pole.)

Here's a plan view of the studio I built in 2014 along with a couple photos.

Re: Sonoma 14.4 crash/kernel panic/reboot with Kontakt 7

Looks like OS 14.5 beta 3 has dropped. and we are back to no more Kontakt crashes, fingers crossed. I just did the update and found the same thing: No crashes in DP, Logic or external monitors. The GUI window flickers on my external monitors but again, no crashes even when I change libraries in a s...

Re: Cursor Hand Goes Missing

I've been experiencing some cursor weirdness, since going to v11.3, as well.

Specifically, the cursor stops changing to the little bracket icons when trimming audio in the Sequence Editor. Sometimes, clicking off of DP (like on the Finder desktop) and then coming back to DP fixes it.

AU validation bug in Sonoma 14.4 fixed

Just got this in an email from Oeksound: “A few weeks ago, we were informed of a serious bug regarding AU plug-in validation in Logic Pro on M2/M3 Macs. The issue presented itself with macOS Sonoma 14.4, which involved security updates that temporarily broke compatibility of all iLok-licensed plug-i...

Yep…. the reader would have cost more than I’ll be getting for the Mac.

SOLVED — How to erase an SDD I can't mount?

Well, just on the off chance the machine might boot (even though it had been dead since late December), I plugged it in and got it to fire up in recovery mode so I could erase the internal SSD.

Whew!

SOLVED—Computer People: How to erase an SDD I can't mount?

Weird problem: My old Intel Mac Pro died… will not boot up at all. I found a buyer for it, but I need to include the original 1tB Mac blade in the machine. I don't have a way of mounting that blade in any of my other computers (won't fit in my Envoy Express), so I have no way to erase what's on it b...

Re: Sonoma 14.4

BTW: The most detailed info I've read on 14.4 issues with PACE iLok came from Oeksound: " macOS Sonoma 14.4 bug (AU plug-ins) "We are aware of a major plug-in scanning bug concerning PACE / iLok protected AU plug-ins on Apple's latest release of Sonoma, 14.4. "So far, we have gathered...

Re: the cleanest compressor you can recommend

My go-to compressor is “The Glue” from Cytomic. It’s a model of the 80s vintage SSL buss compressor, but clean as a whistle. I use it on spoken word recordings all the time, but it works just as good on my jazz guitar tracks. It’s my favorite any time I want transparent compression. Trial and demo v...
