Have you tried opening the drum track in the pitch correction view?

You need to set the default output in MOTU Audio Setup to the headphone out. The, go to Mac System Preferences and set your output to the MOTU and by default your system should output to the headphones. What DAW are you using?

I have been getting really weird issues where assigning a VCA fader to a group (or creating a VCA Fader and Group) adds a ton of distorted noise to the group. Now, if I mute every track in the group the VCA Fader is assigned to individually the noise stays but if I hit the mute on the VCA it goes aw...

Is MOTU really a “small” company? I keep hearing that as a reason for this and that. Hmm...are they? Google... Linkedin sez about the same. You have to take into account hardware, software for their hardware etc. I would bet about 10 people or less work directly coding DP. Probably half that number...
