Re: 896MKIII VS 8pre A/D/A Conversion: it is the same?
Hi, I can't comment on the quality differences between the 896Mk3 (I have the hybrid) and the 8pre, but I can make some suggestions (which may or may not be useful). Firstly, if you were to use a second 896Mk3 then you have the option to simply connect it via Firewire (daisy chain it to first 896Mk3...

Re: high pitch frequency on motu 896mk3 hybrid inputs
Sorry to hear you are in the same boat that as I was in until recently. I now have a new unit and after testing for a period of time, all is well. My old unit would have the tone on anything that was plugged into an analog input - there is no exception. You can even make the tone by engaging the PAD...

Re: high pitch frequency on motu 896mk3 hybrid inputs
Just to let you know - I've received a replacement unit which, after some initial testing, appears to be rid of the tone/noise issue! I've tested a couple of mics, a variety of preamp levels with my headphone volume set loud and I've not been able to reproduce the issue. I've also checked the FFT di...

Re: high pitch frequency on motu 896mk3 hybrid inputs
Klaus, totally agree - if they fix it, then that's the main thing... Of course, as you say, the support that comes with this kind of thing is also important. I've had the support from Motu so far and hopefully will have a good unit at some point next week which I'll post my test results for. Just to...

Re: high pitch frequency on motu 896mk3 hybrid inputs
Hi Klaus, Interestingly, Motu QA were not able to reproduce the issue on the 896mk3 Firewire units that they have but they were able to reproduce the 896mk3 Hybrid issues on several units (but not all). Widening their investigation of the Hybrids showed that there were manufacturing tolerance issues...

Re: high pitch frequency on motu 896mk3 hybrid inputs
Hi all, I have some fantastic news! I have been in touch with someone from Motu's QA department and they have found the cause of the issue to be related to manufacturing tolerances. Basically, not all units have the issue but a fair few will. They have now implemented a change to the units (probably...

Re: high pitch frequency on motu 896mk3 hybrid inputs
Hi, I have received a reply on my Motu TechLink after forwarding the initial details you posted here, Midnight_Engineer (I posted them a link to your post also). They have replied to this and are, in their words, "looking into it very seriously". That was what they told me back on the 15th...

Re: BFD2 and CueMix FX
PS. You can hear the reverb because there is only one reverb channel and it is shared across anything that uses it so if you have stuff being sent to the reverb from the outputs of analog 3/4 and the reverb is being used on the main outs (or routed to the main outs) then you will hear the reverb eff...

Re: BFD2 and CueMix FX
Hi, Sorry you're having a difficult time with it... I also have the 896mk3 Hybrid, but I believe the following is true for most of the Motu interfaces and CueMix FX: Basically, you cannot route any software outputs into CueMix FX (not with current version at least) to be mixed within that software. ...

Re: high pitch frequency on motu 896mk3 hybrid inputs
Hi midnight_engineer, Thanks so much for posting this detailed information. I'll also post this information to Motu on my TechLink (crediting you of course!) - I had a suspicion it might be the PSU, although I was hoping it wouldn't be! My hardware engineering friends at work (I'm a firmware guy) su...

Re: MOTU official techncial support doesn't work
Just found this in a different thread - a response from a Motu TechLink regarding specs for the 896mk3 Hybrid and the Ultralite Mk3 Hybrid: Dynamic Range: 112db (A-weighted RMS) Headroom: 16db (20dbu FS) Available pre amp mic gain: 53db (60db on UltraLite mk3 Hybrid) Sampling Rate: 44.1kHz - 192kHz ...

Re: MOTU official techncial support doesn't work
Hi, I had a long wait for my Motu TechLink too (they are generally quite busy with TechLinks), however, it helps if you phone up and wait in the phone queue (can take a while) and then refer the support person to your TechLink - once your TechLink is assigned to someone you get responses far more qu...

Re: high pitch frequency on motu 896mk3 hybrid inputs
It *is* an amazing unit - very impressed, generally!
But, this issue is a show-stopper for me as it ruins live and recorded material at modest gain settings (the required gain for a dynamic mic). Without this issue, the preamps in my opinion are actually pretty good.

Re: high pitch frequency on motu 896mk3 hybrid inputs
Can't blame you!
I'm still working with Motu tech support to get an answer, and they in turn are waiting upon the developers to a) find the cause and b) come up with a solution.
Thanks for the post, I'll point out that this issue is stalling sales - might up the priority further
