You see, I inserted some measures @ the beginning of this sequence, and they got numbered as -4, -3 etc, Now I realise I don't need them, but when I cut ...

I added some measures that I now want to delete (at the begining of a sequence).

Surround sound doens't really add any extra overheads per se, in terms of CPU/processing anyway. It does of course, require additional drive space -depending on your way of working that is. For example, if you track in mostly mono or stereo and then save the use of surround until your final mix-down...
