Re: UAD Apollo 16 & Motu 828 Hardware
One more point to add to this. I learned that the 828es can be set up as an Optical device so that it can connect with lightpipes to the Apollo as an ADAT extension. The I/O of the 828es will then be accessible in the UAD Console. This allows for using the 828es inputs to be used with UAD plugins on...

Re: UAD Apollo 16 & Motu 828 Hardware
I think I've figured how to do this on my own but only thanks to Mike and Phil's posts and video along with a couple of YouTube videos. Solution: I have the x8p connecting one of its TB ports to my iMac on a TB3 cable and the other to the 828es' TB2 port via a TB3 to TB2 adapter. The 828es is throug...

Re: UAD Apollo 16 & Motu 828 Hardware
An older thread but new to me. A short question first, more detail below: How did you connect the Apollo 16 and the 828mk? ADAT? I just got a UAD Apollo x8p in order to take advantage of its Unison preamps and have been using the 828es for a few months now but now want to figure out how to use them ...

Re: Overloading processor issues
You might consider disabling the processor alerts in DP. I think that’s under Audio preferences. It’s an old bug that DP stops playback/ rec with an occasional “spike.” My cpu meter in DP will spike just opening a project. It’s been that way on my last 3 machines. Ignoring the alert usually has no ...

Re: Overloading processor issues
What is telling you that you are overloading the CPU? If it’s the meter inside DP, open Activity Monitor and see if it agrees that CPU usage is peaking. If Activity Monitor disagrees with DP, ignore what DP tells you about CPU. But check what Activity Monitor tells you about disk activity to make s...

Re: Overloading processor issues
I haven't received a reply but seemed to have learned something from this experience so will share. I had always worked in 48k but have recently moved to working in 44k which seems to save CPU to an extent. I've also done a re-assessment of my use of plugins in general and came to the conclusion I'v...

Overloading processor issues
Is there a guide to best practices about limiting processing resources with DP? I'm building a mix on my iMac (environment described in my signature) that is now constantly throwing indications of processor overload. I am using a 2048 buffer size but am running a lot of tracks each with several effe...

828mk3 upgrade to 828es
I've had my 828mk3 for 8 years now and it's worked remarkably well for me for both recording and mixing. However it seems like it might be time for an upgrade. Question is would moving to a 828es be a simple upgrade, would it be worth doing so in terms of staying on top of current technology, and wh...

Re: PreSonus FaderPort
Just looking into control surfaces now and wondering if anyone has any updates on the info here.
Can anyone chime in with the products mentioned here -
Behringer X-Touch
Icon Pro Audio QCON PRO G2
Presonus Faderport 16
Or any other product that works reliably well with DP?

Re: VI Package recommendations
+1 for NI Komplete. Omnisphere is another staple worth investing in early. +1 on both. Komplete (the”Ultimate” version is unnecessary) has a lot of good VIs as well as effect plugins. Once you have the full version of Kontakt (part of Komplete—all these “K” names are confusing), it opens up a whole...

Re: VI Package recommendations
Hah, I thought this was another Vienna Instruments question, until I saw some of the responses. Do you want sample library recommendations, or standalone synthesizer plug-in recs (including modeled stuff like Sample Modeling winds/strings)? General MIDI oriented coverage of "all basic instrume...

Re: VI Package recommendations
Komplete Select includes the free version of Kontakt only. I don’t consider that a very good deal but, as mentioned earlier, there will be upgrade offers. This is all pretty new to me, very confusing exactly what is what with Kontakt and Komplete. I like what I've heard of theirs so far. Basically ...

Re: Bounce to Disk issue
An update: A lot of this may be subjective as it's not obvious what was different, only that the balance seemed off, corroborated by a colleague so not just my damaged ears weighing in on this. For some reason it seems bouncing to WAV at 16 bits after going through MW Limiter with Dither set to 16 s...

Re: VI Package recommendations
No need to go overboard at first, probably. Packages from NI (Komplete) or IK (Sampletank) will get you started with a good variety of useful sounds. No one stops at one and, once you've begun, there will be email offers for discounts on upgrades and add ons. Thanks! I've been checking out Komplete...

Virtual Instruments - Package recommendations
Hey all, I've been using DP for some time but strictly to only record and mix audio until now. However the time has come that I need to get up and close with VIs. I don't have much, in fact hardly any, experience with them but am amazed at what I'm seeing available. Any good directions to go in, rec...
