I use my MX4 all the time using Vienna Ensemble Pro 5. VEP5 allows you to run 32bit and 64bit instances at the same time...and DP8 recognizes the 32bit instance while running in 64bit. I have a couple of old 32bit VIs I run this way. LOVE VEP5.

Re: Cubase 7 or DP8? Why?
I really liked Chris' reply to this question, and just want to add a thought. I've been using MOTU's products since the beginning, 20+ years ago. I have often been asked this question and have responded with a similar "give the top ones a try" answer, but added that usually one of those DA...

Re: DP8 Experience - Success
Randy, my system is so similar to yours that I'd like to ask a couple of "?"'s, if I may? 1) Bought a 250GB SSD drive...my Mac Pro 3,1 is the oldest machine that will handle an SSD. are you using the SSD as a system drive or for your libraries? System Drive...where my apps are...but I usu...

Re: DP8 Experience - Success
1) Bought a 250GB SSD drive...my Mac Pro 3,1 is the oldest machine that will handle an SSD. Does this imply that Mac Pro 1,1 and 2,1 can't use SSDs? Why is that? This is the first time I hear anything about that? My Mac Pro is an 1,1 that thinks its a 2,1 after it had brain surgery (uh, processor u...

DP8 Experience - Success
All, I could not resist, as usual, the temptation to upgrade to DP8. My experience with it so far has been great. But I took a long, safe journey there... 1) Bought a 250GB SSD drive...my Mac Pro 3,1 is the oldest machine that will handle an SSD. 2) Installed Mountain Lion 10.8.2...confirmed it was ...

Ha! Sorry, I was just chiming in...sounds like you are definitely pushing harder than me. I just know the waters parted for me once I put VEP5 into the equation.frankf wrote:Ok, now I'm not sure who is responding to whom

Re: VI management in DP7
What system do you have? How are you distributing your VIs? In my experience on my system, a MacPro 3,1 with 24 gb RAM, your claims do not hold up. Hi Frank, As an example, I just finished work on a project that had one VEP5 instance with a) Kontakt4 fully loaded with 14 instruments (Mojo Horns, JA...

Re: VI management in DP7
I have not...although I looked over the pitch on their site. It looks very intriguing...a completely different mindset to mixing. Not enough time in my life to go much further than that unfortunatelynk_e wrote:BTW, did you give MIR a try? If so, what do you think?

Re: VI management in DP7
BTW, I couldn't find a "sale" from SW on it? They showing $265, which is the same as the "other guys"(B&H). Sorry, you are correct...they all have it marked down the same (which is not unusual)...but that is way less than buying it directly from VSL (over $300 after EUR conv...

Re: VI management in DP7
if using a single Mac (no slaves), is there a noticeable advantage to using VEPro with DP? That is exactly what I am doing...DEFINITIVELY YES. would you anticipate that advantage to continue with DP 8? I think that will depend on how good DP8 ends up performing. But there is something telling me th...

Re: VI management in DP7
...and I get distortion on a simple Omnisphere track when bussing it back to DP. Frankf, When you say you buss it back to DP, it implies to me that you are running VEP5 is the standalone mode. I am new to this, but that is not how I am doing it...and my results are crystal clear (with only 8GB ram)...

Re: VI management in DP7
My vote: VE Pro 5 hands down. I discovered this fact due to this thread, and trying to figure out why Bidule wasn't giving my machine any relief. Decided to try the VEP5 demo (fully functional, 30 uses or 30 days)...OMG, what a difference! AND way more intuitive to use over Bidule (at least once you...

Talkback and Monitoring Solution/Tip
After hours of mucking around :? , I provide this tip for anyone who is interested... I just decided to finally make the final leap of faith and dump my trusty analog mixing. This was a huge leap for me...but the only chore the desk was performing was monitoring and talkback. So, it was time to move...

Re: Need Help - Missing Audio Files
Are he files still listed in the soundbites window? If so, what does it say in the Disk column? Timbo, I think your intuition is spot on...it is pointing to a disk that does not exist any longer. More accurately, it exists, but I renamed it (from "Studio 1" to "Studio"). I recor...

Need Help - Missing Audio Files
Wow...this one has me stumped. I have a project I finished back in Aug'09 (I am a DP early adopter, so I would have been on whichever version was available back then...6.x?) I needed to do a remix of the project and when I opened it, several of the soundbites were missing. What is odd is that there ...
