Re: Compressors?

I'm still old-school: I have a hardware compressor -- or two, in series, sometimes -- in between the mic pre and the A/D converter. But when I do use a plug-in for VO compression

Ooh, good idea, thanks! I'll let y'all know if that succeeds.

MacOS error: Unexpected error (-2009)

Anyone ever encounter this alert when trying to import an audio file into the Soundbites window of a project? " Digital Performer has encountered an error MacOS error: Unexpected error (-2009) " It's happened to me with three or four different audio files, all MP3s that I ripped from youtu...

"Hold"?!?!

We always just attached the pencil to the body of the mic with blue painter's tape.

Re: Your Favorite Mixing Tips...

Here's a mixing "trick" I've been using for over 40 years and still find it helps make a drumkit gel: Identify where the "point" of the kick drum tone is frequency-wise -- that narrow register (that either occurs naturally and/or that you've chosen to emphasize) where the snap/sl...

Re: Can someone please remind me of this tech term and examples?

Apologies for zombie thread resurrection, but I think "diegetic transition" is the term you're looking for

...although the number of musicians who would recognize what you're talking about when you used that term is probably woefully small.

Re: Yamaha Guitar

Are there any opinions about Yamaha? My very first guitar in 1972 was a Yamaha FG-50 acoustic. It served me well until ~1980 or '81 when I (foolishly) sold it 'cuz I needed $50 cash. Then in 1985 I won an entry-level Yamaha solid body electric (model SE200 I think?) in a raffle, and that guitar was...

Re: Tempo Map When There's No Tempo

I'm curious to see if anyone chimes in with suggestions, because I wind up using DP for recording a lot of music that doesn't easily conform to grid-based conventions. I'd especially be interested in ways to hide the bars/beats markers in the audio editing ("Sequence"?) view, or replace th...

Re: Six reasons why I love DP (and a few things I wish were better)

That would be cycle record. Been there forever. I use that rather than Polar which seems fussy to control. AFAIK the important difference is that Polar used RAM so you didn't have to worry about slow disk drives. Okay, so Polar is the one I was thinking of, I definitely remember its RAM-based memor...

Re: Six reasons why I love DP (and a few things I wish were better)

Polar- I recently rediscovered this, top notch looping setup. Ha! So this is literally the opposite of the “Man, I wish DP did x,” I later learn that it does do that, and has done that for like 10 years thing that OP mentioned: I coulda sworn Polar disappeared somewhere around DP Vers3 or 4! Or wai...

Re: Six reasons why I love DP (and a few things I wish were better)

Whenever I think “Man, I wish DP did x,” I later learn that it does do that, and has done that for like 10 years. LOL! ^^^This literally made me laugh out loud. What keeps you coming back? The fact that I never have to say “Man, I wish DP did x” I made a deal with myself a number of years ago: As s...

Re: DiY Balanced Patch Cable

Studios use Ethernet cables for audio wiring now Mike. The Cat6a is incredibly excellent for audio... tight twists and a nice shield with drain. Pro tip: If you're shopping for bulk cable for these balanced analog audio runs make sure whatever you're buying explicitly specifies " shielded &quo...
