DP7 Transport Delay
Hello everyone. I am trying to track down a solution for a DP7 transport problem. We're on DP7. We recently installed DP7- the latest upgrade. The MAC Pro has 16 gigs of ram, Leopard Operating system (not Snow Leopard), a MOTU 424 card, connected to 4 MOTU 2408s. It's a system that's being pushed to...

VST Instruments and loading "hiccups"
I was working for a client today and discovered an odd situation, one that's kind of frustrating. I was wondering if anyone can provide a solution. We're using DP6 (latest updated version) on a MacPro with 16 gigs of ram. Most of the VST instruments are being run on external slave computers. A very ...

Re: DP6- Device Remap Losing MIDI Routing! AAAH! HELP!
Well, no responses? I have come across a fix that works for me, and I present it in case anyone else ever encounters the same situation in the future. Basically, DP6 acted weird when working with a large template that combined elements that were created in earlier DPs and DP6. (4,5, and 6). When I c...

Re: DP6- Device Remap Losing MIDI Routing! AAAH! HELP!
Ok, This is getting worse, if that's possible. No matter how many times I re-assign the MIDI Ports and Channels to the MIDI Tracks, and save it, including as a template, DP insists on bringing up the "REMAP MIDI DEVICE" dialogue every time I start these DP sessions. 1st, DP doesn't list wh...

Re: DP6- Losing my MIDI Port & Channel Routing! AAAH! HELP!
One more piece of the puzzle- Upon opening the file, it keeps saying that it wants to do a Device Remap- that some of the MIDI is not the same configuration. Which is weird, because I have been working on the template with new computers for a week now, and it only says this now.

Re: DP6- Losing my MIDI Port & Channel Routing! AAAH! HELP!
Just as an addendum for the problem solving- I have Music LAB's MIDI over LAN. It's been setup for each slave PC in the system. Those MIDI port designations are found in the MIDI setup, in the Music Lab MOL setup, and are visible in the DP Bundles under MIDI devices, as well. In other words, those M...

DP6- Device Remap Losing MIDI Routing! AAAH! HELP!
I'm in the process of building all new DP6 orchestral templates after adding new computers to my system. Template building is a slow, tedious process, auditioning sounds and so forth.. I finally finished the template- everything was good, all of the MIDI PORT and Channel routing was correct, as well...

Re: DP 6 GUI - What do you think of it?
I don't know what you're looking for in your color codes, but I've never seemed to run out of colors. I change sets for any reason that suits me. Sometimes it's for contrast so that I can see certain tracks more easily. Sometimes it's just because I want a different look for a while. With QuicKeys,...

Re: DP 6 GUI - What do you think of it?
I haven't been keeping up with this thread, but had I been here in November, I'd have asked "did I really just hear a rant about NOTE-OFF velocities?" Note-off velocities... now that's funny. By the way, the answer is to be found in the "View Filter" Just turn 'em off. Shooshie ...

Re: Burning Time code on to Video??
If you are doing any professional work, it is NOT unreasonable to ask for, and receive, a work print that already contains timecode, or at the VERY least, a timecode burn-in window. 9 times out of 10, it should already be there. After all, how did they cut/edit their reel without knowing where thing...

Re: Burning Time code on to Video??
The important thing here is whether you simply want to have a timecode burn-in window on a quicktime, or real timecode. A burn-in window on a clip is easy to do. There are several inexpensive or shareware programs that can create burn-in windows for quicktime video, such as QTSync, or Toki. But it i...

Re:
29.97nd is industry standard at the moment for audio (sound design and music) for motion pictures. Don't let anyone tell you different. If they are not willing to give you a standard codec DV QuickTime in 29.97nd with a window burn they either don't know how to do it...or don't want to take the tim...

Re: DP 6 GUI - What do you think of it?
I'm not debating that sometimes synths require OFF note velocities. What I'm saying is that MOTU explicitly states that while it displays the OFF velocities, you can't actually do anything to edit them in the MIDI window, like you can all of the rest of the MIDI information that's displayed. It's mo...

Re: DP 6 GUI - What do you think of it?
Going back to a few of the comments/suggestions that I previously made: I happened to be reading the DP6 book and came across some odd things in the process. This goes back to the comment re: allowing users to choose ANY number of colors they want on screen. In the instruction manual, under the sect...

Re: Why is DP so popular with film composers
It's important to point out, though, that DP and Cubase are about even with regard to film composer usage in Hollywood. R U sure about that? I only know of two composers using Cubase. Not that it matters, I'm sure Cubase works great for the task. Cubase: Harry Gregson Williams, James Newton Howard,...
