Re: Which old Macs will work with MIDI Timepiece AV (serial?

You can also use them with G4/G5 Powermacs that have a Stealth Serial Port card installed. The only limitation is that there isn't an OS X version of Clockworks that can communicate with them. With the Stealth ports, they will function as MIDI interfaces but will need to be programmed from the front...

Re: How I got Unisyn to working G5 10.5 > MacPro 10.6

Hi James! Forgive me if this seems like a stupid question, but are you saying Unisyn actually works on an Intel Mac running Snow Leopard (10.6) with Rosetta? The reason I'm asking is that I've read conflicting reports of Unisyn's compatibility with Snow Leopard (10.6). I'm considering purchasing Uni...

Re: Unisyn & Snow Leopard?

@SmilesLots Well, I figured I'd give you six months to find the disks as opposed to a week. Any news? I'm still using a G5 for my main machine, but I'm slowly putting my PPC machines out to pasture. One of the big things holding me back is I need an editor/librarian for my hardware synths (I'm...

Colored Glasses - 2009 JLSC Finalist

Just wanted to share my song "Colored Glasses" with all of you. It just won a prize in the 2009 John Lennon Song Writing Contest in the category of electronic music. Like many of you, I'm somewhat cynical about song writing contests, and only entered this one because I needed to give mysel...

Synthpop's Alive

I made this video a little over a year ago, but thanks to the encouragement of one of MOTUnation's most distinguished citizens (who, for his own protection, shall remain nameless -- but he knows who he is!) I've decided to post it now. Although the final soundtrack was mixed and mastered in Pro Tool...

Re: Uncomfortable calling myself a "composer".

Go here for info on what has been possible for me with silent http://www.midilifecrisis.com Thanks for the link! It's funny how little I know about the people on this board, and what they do "in real life." Reading your bio was very enjoyable and most enlightening! I never realized we had...

Re: RIP Merce Cunningham

A true champion of composers and new music! :( Indeed! And a very kind, approachable man as well. I had the honor of meeting him on several occasions at ADF (the American Dance Festival). The modern dance world has lost two of its greatest artists in the last few weeks. In Germany, we have been mou...

Re: Uncomfortable calling myself a "composer".

MIDI Life Crisis -- How funny you should mention working with silent film. As an avid improvisor, this is something I have wanted to try for years. The problem is, I have the (un)fortunate honor of being the friend and colleague of Germany's foremost pianist for silent film, namely Joachim Bärenz --...

Re: Uncomfortable calling myself a "composer".

I only just now discovered this thread, and don't really have much to add (as most everything I would want to say has already been said more eloquently), but I would like to say this to Mr. Quimper: It sounds to me like you already are a composer, so you should just start calling yourself a composer...

Re: UAD 5.4 out now

@James - I feel the same. As a UAD-1 owner it kind of hurts to see more UAD-2 only plugs rolling out. I know, the writing has been on the wall for awhile now, but still.... Oh well, my G5 is still chuggin' along just great. I'm in no hurry. Maybe UAD-3 will be out by the time I upgrade. @Frodo - I'v...

Re: Notation Editor Inquiry

I still think Cubase has the best integrated notation of any of the major DAW's. The last time I checked out Logic (and it's been awhile), the notation aspect of the program was only marginally more useful than QS. I was very excited when Digidesign first announced it was going to integrate Sibelius...

Re: Notation Editor Inquiry

Yikes, has it been two years already?! God, does time ever fly when you're having fun! Can't say I've been having much of it though with QS. In fact, I don't believe I've opened a single QS window in over two years. I still ask, whatever happened to Mosaic?! Why isn't Mosaic part of DP?! Anyway, jus...

Re: Archiving some old files from MIDI DJ to DP

Wow... the Indus MIDI DJ! I remember those! About the most cryptic piece of gear I have ever owned. I still curse the bugger who talked me into buying one. It's still around, somewhere, along with a box of 5 1/4" floppies... but it doesn't work any more. At least, not the last time I tried it (...

Re: Komplete 5 @ $334 now!!!

Too bad I live in Germany where it costs 399 EUROS -- which is about 550 USD. Not quite as exciting. And the last time I tried to "beat the system" and order something abroad, I got slapped with a customs tax at the door! The postman rang and it was like "So, if you want this package,...

Re: How many 5.13 people waiting to upgrade?

I'm still on 5.11 which has been so good to me I never even felt compelled to go to 5.13, let alone 6! While there are things about DP 6 that look enticing, I'm just too busy at the moment to risk destabilizing the most solid setup I've had for years. So, I guess that puts me squarely in the waiting...
