turn on multi channel recording, enable recording on your MIDI track, bring upfront the ME & click , drag away

I'm getting spontaneous restarts either way- power off 828es before or after the Mac. This is totally wacky :

My 828es is via TB. Normally it will crash if shut off 1st. Previously ( prior to 12.6.3) it would ( as you mentioned)spontaneously
restart the Mac w/ an error.
