Re: Graphics card req for going to Mojave ?

I just installed the 4GB RX560 and it works great and only cost me about $120. Highly recommended and I would save the money you would have spent on the RX580 unless you're doing heavy professional graphics work. Even with the 560, you get a ton of performance for the money (I run a 32" 4k moni...

Re: Pitch Shift/Correction Bars Missing

Hmm. I've not seen this before. Are you sure the vertical scale is within the range of the actual pitch? Did you try moving the slider on the left up and down and changing the zoom level? I'd also try the pitch layer on another track and see if the anomaly is track specific or project-wide. And per...

Pitch Shift/Correction Bars Missing

Hi everyone, I am missing the MIDI bars that you see when editing the audio in the Sequence Window. I've got the "Pitch" layer selected but it looks like DP hasn't analyzed any of the audio for pitch. Haven't done this since before 9.5 so I'm not sure if there was something that changed he...

Re: Steinberg & OT create Iconica for VST3-based orchestra

I"m pretty sure you can get them without the main libraries, but don't quote me on that. The only add-on library I have is the Additional Brass, which shares nothing with the main brass so it can be used without the main library. I think the only time you need the main library is if it shares s...

Re: Steinberg & OT create Iconica for VST3-based orchestra

I was most impressed by the percussion. The sound of that hall just speaks very well to percussion. I thought the woodwinds and brass were decent, but I can't say they're better than my existing Berlin libraries (with a couple of small exceptions). And the lack of the dynamic layers in a lot of thos...

Re: Dorico - An Ongoing Journey

- Note-Entry: While not bad, its more Sibelius-y than Finale-y. I use a MIDI keyboard and use simple entry in Finale but in Dorico I have to select things like dots before I enter a note. Just a bit different. Editing notes after entry, however, it a lot easier in Dorico than Finale. This hurts me....

Re: Dorico - An Ongoing Journey

Sorry for the late update everyone. Don't have time to post as much as I'd like to. I am now using Dorico Pro 2. Still really liking it. I do find that I spend a little more time inserting music than in Finale, but when I'm getting music ready to print, its 100x faster to get parts ready. And I neve...

Re: Steinberg & OT create Iconica for VST3-based orchestra

This is an interesting development in the sampling world as none of the big DAW players have stepped into the in-depth sampling business in many years, especially when competing with the dedicated sampling companies like Orchestral Tools, Spitfire, and Cinesamples. This is a brand new library though...

Re: Dorico - An Ongoing Journey

Quick update: Been really enjoying Dorico. I've switched to it almost full-time now. I just did a recording session in Scotland of one my academic works (for young string players) and notated it entirely in Dorico. All of the music was composed in DP, notated in Dorico, click track in Pro Tools, mix...

Re: Spitfire Brass vs Berlin Brass

That's very helpful feedback. For orchestral horn in particular, I am heavily influenced by Richard Strauss and thus need good articulation and note separation for fast passages, which is a real challenge with most libraries. So it's good to hear that Berlin Brass excels in this area. For Tuba, giv...

Re: Spitfire Brass vs Berlin Brass

Thanks for weighing in, Elektroakoustika. BB sounds fantastic to me for detailed mockups, but considering Capsules's extra-high CPU demand, are you able to use it in the sketching-ideas part of your writing process where having a more streamlined articulation palette that responds quickly is import...

Re: Spitfire Brass vs Berlin Brass

I'll jump in here. I own Berlin Brass, Spitfire Brass, a lot of VSL's line, CineBrass Core & Pro, Hollywood Brass, & Metropolis Ark I (another Orchestral Tools library w/ large brass ensembles). Right now, my usage is 85% Berlin & MA1, 10% CineBrass, and 5% Spitfire. Berlin Brass is a wo...

Re: Dorico - An Ongoing Journey

Update #1!!! So I've been engraving my latest composition over the last week or so, and I have to say, I really love the workflow of Dorico. It just feels like a more modern program and there are so many things that work so well in it. And the amount of tweaking you can do in the preferences panel i...

Re: Dorico - An Ongoing Journey

Very helpful review. Too bad I couldn't get their website to accept my email request for getting a demo license to try out; that turned me off as my problem report also went unanswered. I'd hate to buy it blind, have it not work, and still have no vendor support. I'd save that demo license until th...

Dorico - An Ongoing Journey

Just thought I'd start a thread posting my experiences with Dorico. I am a long-time Finale user and still use it for many of my projects. But Steinberg had a ridiculous deal for educational crossgrade pricing (which was great for me as I am both a music teacher and Finale user). I knew jumping in t...
