Re: Cue Conversions

Yes...and actually, DP has more powerful features. You can set markers at hit points you want to "hit" in the film with your music. Define the importance if each hit point from VERY Important, to not important. Lock each marker in place. Then you can have DP calculate a range of tempos tha...

Re: CD quality? phooo! how about DVD?

The way the current spec is for DVD, it is just not that simple. Using the A.pack in Apple's DVD studio pro, you get AC3 encoded audio tracks which are not DVD-Audio. DVD-Audio is a format. A specific spec. Special DVD-Audio players are needed to read DVD-Audio discs. Current DVD players are DVD-Vid...

Re: CD quality? phooo! how about DVD?

Making a DVD-Audio disc is not anything like a CD audio disc. Yes...the formats are higher like 96KHz and 48bit recordings, etc...but you need specific encoders (and new codec like MLP - Meridian Lossless Packing) to get your audio into the proper format and they are very expensive at the moment. th...

Re: the problem with compresssion. DP and Final Cut

I have a sound designer friend (who is very good and has done a lot of stuff like work on Toy Story 2, Fight Club, Two Towers trailer, etc...) who spends a lot of time with dialogue and getting certain words to speak clearly in a mix. One of her tricks is to create a seperate mono track immediately ...

Re: DP 4.5

I would upgrade now. 4.5 is basically only a few months old. so you've got a lot of time before another paid update if MOTU follows precedent.

And....4.5 is the best version of DP ever in my opinion. Lots of cool stuff.

Re: New G5s announced on Apple's Web Site

Not sure on the UAD-1 yet. The problem is in the AMD chip used to control the flow of information on the PCI bus. I believe Apple is still using the same AMD chip...so the problem will probably still exist unless the Tiger operating system has some software work around in how the hardware data flows...

Re: PCI-424 not comopmatable with G5?!

not sure how...but I guess it is possible you got one of the first round of 424 cards. The first batch or so ran on a different voltage and were not compatible with the G5 motherboard when it came out. So MOTU revamped the card and set up an exchange program a couple years ago. I guess it is possibl...

Re: Firewire Drives and MOTU Hardware

The problem is not the Lacie drives...or firewire drives in general. 7200 RPM drives are very adequate for digital audio and video. The problem is the combination of using a firewire audio device recording onto a firewire drive simultaneously. Think of where the audio has to go. Into the firewire au...

Re: What is everyone using for firewire DV?

Yea...I had a Formac DV studio, but it would sometimes lag too much and stutter when transferring the firewire video back to analogue. I ended up using this as an excuse to get a Canon Optura 300 and now I use that for both input and output of video into the mac. I works flawlessly and when I need i...

If you need to know a similar answer like this in the future (trailer music), you can always go to www.filmmusic.com and look at their trailer music resource page. It will list almost every trailer and what music was used in it.

Re: Minor DP 4.5 Buglist

Annother annoying bug: DP 4.5 and quicktime movies will fall out of synch when opened a second time. When opening a project with a quicktime movie a second time...upon pressing play on digital performer...the movie and sound will be out of synch by as much as 15 frames. Stopping playback and toggli...
