Re: Project Cherry Picker!!!

• What happened to CherryPicker? Basically, I gave away all my MIDI boxes soon after I wrote CherryPicker, and switched to audio. I wrote it for myself, and no longer needed it, so it was left to rust away. Since I started it back on OSX 10.1, it was PPC only, and its code belongs in a museum given ...

Re: Midnam for Yamaha Rack XS?

It sounds like the editor you used saved in RTF rather than plain text or UTF8... This prevents the XML from being read, and DP will just use its default GM list. I'll PM you with my email address - just send me the files (midnam & Yamaha.middev), and I'll fix them up for you :)

Re: Midnam for Yamaha Rack XS?

Try the following: 1) Look inside the midnam and middev files and make sure the model names are the same, they're up at the top, and that the midnam is named the same too - (it's case sensitive) 2) Quit DP, open AudioMIDI setup, and delete the XS device. Quit AMS. 3) Open up DP, and when it has fini...

Re: Faderport+10.5.8+DP6.0.2+G5PPC dual 2.5GHZ

As far as I remember, you can only update the Faderport to 1.3.3 on a Tiger system. Once it's updated, it will work fine on Leopard (haven't tried mine on SL yet).

Re: Audio MIDI setup does not contain my synthesizer

AudioMIDI Setup looks for files with the .middev extension that are anywhere in your /Library/Audio directory - and inside these files are lists of synth models along with some basic information about the synth. MOTU puts a bunch of these files inside /Library/Audio/MIDI Devices/MOTU - they organize...

Re: CoreMIDI

Your .midnam and .middev folders/files are installed in a full install of Digital Performer and not by the operating system. I also have a non-music machine running 10.5.5 and there's nary a patchlist on it. I came into the world of OS X at 10.3.3 and I don't remember any Apple-supplied patchlists....

Re: CoreMIDI

If I remember correctly, the MIDI Manufacturers Association sponsored the development of the .midnam and .middev specs in the hope that this would standardize and simplify the whole problem of patch management consistency across different DAWs and OS platforms. It's something that coreMIDI supports ...

Re: Cherrypicker for midnam files

As far as I remember, CherryPicker will let you paste name lists or drag them from a text editor (such as BBEdit/TextEdit) as long as they are in plain text format, but it won't handle raw .PDF. The trouble with PDF is that the text is embedded inside the page layout information; so either find a li...

Re: Roland Fantom-X8 with DP 4

Yes - all that is missing is the patch file (.midnam) and the device entry (.middev). MOTU supplies a file with the name of 'Fantom', though I don't know if this is the same as the X8. If you want to try it, quit DP, go to AudioMIDI Setup, delete the X8, and create a new device by selecting 'Roland'...

Re: Restoring Expansion midnam Files After Audio/MIDI Rebuild

...I tried Cherry Picker yesterday but I was getting some kind of xml errors(?) as it was attempting to import the expansion card. I remember that some of MOTU's Expander files contained XML errors - the Roland Country expander might be one of those, though I can't remember the details! If CherryPi...

Is Cherrypicker compatible and still going strong these days? I haven't put out an update for quite a while - though I do keep adding things to the version I use. It still seems to work though :D For example, the last thing I added was a user defined category editor which allows you to create categ...

Does Cherrypicker offer extra stuff that I'm missing out on?
Things like organizing your list into sound category banks instead of the weird mixed up ROM banks most synths have.

I just tried importing the expansion names for the Orchestral Sessions Vol1&2 into a Proteus 2000 midnam, and it worked without a hitch. I used the CherryPicker Expansion importer (I think I've updated it since 2.62, though I haven't released it). If you want me to send it you, let me know. Chee...
