James,

Your meme was very helpful: If we don’t laugh, we cry. [emoji6]

Re: Sonoma 14.4 crash/kernel panic/reboot with Kontakt 7

Joining in VERY late, I’m still on Intel and IS 13.6.6. I have not updated NI since I disinherited a project in February. I had many Kontakt crashes and instances going blank then but limped through. Should I go to NA and update or leave it alone for a while. I’m thinking this is mainly an AS +OS 14...

Good god… “clean up on Aisle 5! And Aisle 6… add Aisle 9…” When did Mr. Bean take over NI?

Re: An interesting option as a 2nd monitor.

My understanding from comments a review is that the aspect ratio and where the image was "centered" was different than portrait mode for a 27" or whatever. I don't know. Perhaps this is why it's an oddity. Yes, most monitors do let you rotate, or course you also have cables and ports ...

An interesting option as a 2nd monitor.

I ran into this the other day and had never seen a "portrait" monitor like this. Hypothetically it occurs to me that especially for those of us using notation programs this could make an interesting choice as a 2nd monitor, versus changing orientation on a regular landscape monitor. I'm cu...

Re: Sonoma 14.4

At the risk of belaboring this topic, this article is a bit clearer. It's mostly good news for us, but there is some worry. Note: "The M3 chip does have a special bit in the processor that programmers can set to disable the prefetcher for cryptographic functions and preventing cryptographic dat...

Re: Sonoma 14.4

James, being essentially clueless I'm more concerned if it's a backdoor to passwords and logons. Many of us do banking and purchases etc. Perhaps Mike has some thoughts on whether this is a tempest in a tea cup or something more serious, like a backdoor not just to iLok but our Apple accounts, Keych...

Sonoma 14.4

I guess a counter-argument would be brilliant manager Tim Cook reassessed the core biz and decided to cut certain projects to focus on… AI? Oops. Now they’re licensing AI from Google et al? Actually getting burned by Motorola and Intel understandably made them want to own/build their own components ...

Re: Sonoma 14.4

And I have to assume that it would be too late in the game for a projected M3 Ultra this June to be altered. Does that mean A. the ultra (if it is released for a new Mac Studio) would have the same flaw B. The release would be delayed by the design-manufacturing of a new "corrected" versio...

Re: Sonoma 14.4

Yeah, doesn't sound so good, although still "proof of concept." I guess it "happens" but man, Apple has really been tripping over themselves and QC these past 2-3 years, since the pandemic. I don't think they can be blamed for shortages and yield issues with chips etc. that delay...

Re: Sonoma 14.4

Yeah James. Way above my pay grade, I have no idea if it refers to actually software that uses cryptography or if it’s some sort of internal process generally used for OS safety etc. [emoji2369]
