Ethics in the Recording Studio

I know that they say "anything goes" in the studio, but let's face it, we're all human. We all have our limits and reservations about what we are comfortable doing in the studio. I'm not talking about legal ethics like copying other's work, but little things like whether to pitch correct a...

I still use the old dynamics plug more than the masterworks compressor just because I'm not as comfortable doing single-band compression with the MW compressor. I know you can turn off the multi-bands (right?), but I'm not exactly sure how to do it. Call it habit... maybe even a bad habbit, but I st...

MW Leveler... what does it do?

This is my really stupid new topic for the month. But I've (tried) reading the manual for MW Leveler, and I'm totally lost on what the heck it does. It's a compressor/limiter, I understand that much, but when playing around with it, I couldn't hear any difference in level or tone to my mix, other th...

Ya know, Shoosh, I respect the hell out of you, and I'm sorry you got that impression about me. What can I say? But you must agree, DP is the kind of program you can use for over 6 years, and still find something new every day, and I guess that's what we've got here. My intention wasn't to trash DP,...

Sorry, I should explained better. "Object-based" might even be the wrong term, but essentially I'm referring to non-destructive layer-based editing ala Photoshop. You can apply edits and effects in layers, then turn those layers on and off or even rearrange them without creating new audio...

Just a word of warning... BWav doesn't seem to play very well with my iPod. Sometimes they work, sometimes they crash the little bugger. So, if you drag one into iTunes, as a way of demoing the track later on an iPod or iPhone, you might want to get iTunes to re-encode it as a standard WAV file. I'l...

Re: I wish DP's controller data would operate like AfterEffe

I'm sorry, but you might have to explain that one more. If I put in nodes on the volume automation (audio track) in DP, it draws lines between the nodes and automates accordingly, just the same as it does in Pro Tools. I'm struggling to see the difference. I agree that the editing tools in DP aren'...

Object-based editing? Not sure I know exactly what that refers to, but since I'm a fairly hierarchical thinker with a background in object oriented programming, as well as Max/MSP, I'd probably love it. I forgot to mention, there is ONE thing that I think video/graphics programs could learn from DAW...

Re: I wish DP's controller data would operate like AfterEffe

Firstly, are you talking about MIDI CC data or controllers like volume automation? DP behaves exactly the same as Pro Tools with both. Incorrect. DP behaves VERY differently with controller operations, both volume/pan and MIDI (not absolutely sure about the MIDI, since I mostly used PT for audio). ...

I wish DP's controller data would operate like AfterEffects

I'm a video producer/animator by day. My weapon, along with the millions of others who use it: Adobe AfterEffects. The similarities between audio DAWs and video edit suites & compositing programs (such as After Effects) are endless. Hell, when I started, I knew nothing about video editing but wa...

I don't think it's possible. That's not what the tracks window is for, after all. That's what the sequence editor is for. However, holding the command key down while dragging MIGHT have that effect, but I've never tried it.

That's not what I think I'm after. I think the settings your refering to simply toggel whether an edit window opens in the consoldated window or in a separate window. What I'm talking about is still having the edit window open in the consoldated window, but have it replace the current pane (tracks w...

What's the setting to...

What's the setting so that when you double-click a selection in the track window (either MIDI or audio), it will switch to the MIDI or sequence editor right inside the central consoldated window (instead of opening up a new pane)? I had it setup this way for DP5.13, but when I trashed all my pref fi...

Re: "Link Selection to Memory" not working in DP6?

You could use "control-space," which will loop your selection and begin playback from the selection start. I use this all the time and I like it better than the "Link Selection to Memory" thing because I don't have to toggle it on and off. That's pretty cool... never thought of ...

Well... I'm running both right now... I haven't decided to move EVERYTHING over to DP6 yet, but I've started to migrate here and there (as of this morning). So far, ProVerb is the only thing that really is an all-and-out "gotta-have-it" feature for me, and it may be the thing that keeps me...
