Re: The myriad ways in which the App Store sucks
Like I said, the behavior you described is what I have seen on the other two or three occasions I've needed to use the App Store. Maybe I didn't make it clear that I spent over half an hour trying to work out the weirdness of that product page before finding the hidden buy button and then having th...

Re: Backing Up Keychains
Those are the right folders to backup. And don't worry about "how easy it would be to steal someone's ID and PW info" as the files are all encrypted with your system password. Without this password the files are just gobbledygook. Obviously if you have a weak system password then the files...

Re: Yosemite is the only way (upgrade or be hacked)
There's a hell of a lot of Apple haters just itching to find even one example of something like this actually affecting a single Mac user. And the silence is deafening! There are millions of Macs running older OSes out there, I've been waiting to eat my hat for decades now but it's still in one piec...

Re: How did you come to using DP ?
In 1999 bought a full ProTools setup including Mac for about €15,000. Wasted two years arsing about with PT until I decided to try DP. Took another few years until I gave up on the PT hardware and bought an 828. From there life got far easier. Now I'm still on DP7 with 2 828 mkIIs and a new 5k iMac ...

I'm using 7.24 on mountain lion and all is fine - no urge to go to either mavericks or dp8 yet

Re: Best Acoustic Guitar VI for strumming
If you have an iphone or an ipad there are some great acoustic guitar apps which will allow you to strum them yourself without needing to be able to actually play a guitar.

Re: SSD on FW800
I recently installed a 1tb ssd (crucial.com) in my 2010 iMac 27" and quite honestly my life has changed! From a startup time of 3-4 minutes (I'd startup and go and boil the kettle) to a startup of 5-7 seconds! All of my apps startup up more or less immediatley and IT'S QUIET!!!! I was able to l...

Re: DP Control and ios7
Interestingly, the in App-store search didn't know anything about 'DP control', or even 'Motu'. DP Control is an iPhone app rather than a Universal or iPad app so it doesn't appear in searches on the iPad tab of the App Store. Do remember that there are a load of useful iPhone apps that will run on...

Re: iPad programs, mics and interfaces?
I'd suggest you start with the Apple apps, GarageBand, Pages, iPhoto, iMovie... they are reasonably priced and very hard to beat.

Re: I've decided to move to a Windows Machine
I honestly wish you good luck although I imagine you might find this to be a very expensive experiment in the long run. Being a Mac user you may have come to expect that a computer is something that just sits there running your DAW and simply connects to anything you plug into it. Do be aware that t...

Re: Crash during live performance
I can't imagine doing a show of the size you're talking about without a backup of some sort. A mac mini is cheap enough and will handle a huge amount - it doesn't sound like you'd be taxing it. The malloc error is a memory allocation which is not something that should be happening on a clean install...

Re: Two fisted DP Control
For example, I wrote a suggestion that shaking the iPhone could wake your screen from sleep or screensaver if it engaged while controlling DP remotely. I got a reply saying that it was a good idea, but Apple expects shaking to be "undo" and I'm assuming Apple doesn't take kindly to that? ...
