Re: Is it worth upgrading the RAM?
Going to 16 will most definitely be worth it! Progressively less gain after that. More than 32gb is probably not worth it unless you work with big sample libraries.

Re: DP10 manual
Learn how to use a searchable .pdf file and you’ll never miss the thousand page manual again. But you only find what you are looking for. What I like about printed books/manuals is that by skimming through them you often find useful stuff you were not looking for. It’s hard to search for functions ...

Re: Thunderbolt on Mac Pro 5,1... It IS actually happening!
What do you mean by 'There was no need to do anything in Windows'?? Are you saying the card is running natively in MacOS on its own without needing Bootcamp/Windows installed?? Yes, on a Hackintosh it runs natively. Although some settings had to be changed in BIOS to get it working. Something that ...

Re: Thunderbolt on Mac Pro 5,1... It IS actually happening!
For what it's worth: I have a Hackintosh that I got to work with Thunderbolt both using the Alpine Ridge and Titan Ridge. Switched to Titan Ridge as I couldn't get both TB3 ports to work at the same time with the Alpine Ridge... The Titan Ridge also work with limited (= a bit random) hot swapping. T...

Re: NAMM NEWS - DP 10 - It's Here!
I took it to mean the entire UVI-based MOTU instruments (Electric Keys, Symphonic, BPM, etc.). But of course, even that would add up to considerably more than 5GB. If I remember correctly, Mach 5 came with two sets of sounds, the "Mach 5 sounds" and one that was UVI sounds. Which, again i...

But nobody’s heard of it, so unless they do something quite radical it will disappear as wellmikehalloran wrote: DP is part of the answer to this question: What’s my time worth?

Re: DP10 speculation?
I'm really anxious to see that, too. I want to see what the new MacPros are going to be. Seems like it's sort of do or die for Mac in the creative space if they don't knock it out of the park. Even then, I'm running along okay on the 12-core cheesegrater (4,1 upgraded to 5,1) but I fear I may be pr...

Re: Original Motu 828
Have it as well... used it to record live shows back in the day... so it’s been lugged around in just a plastic bag and been to more after parties than I can remember, had its ADAT out connector smashed in so it rattles around inside the unit... but the 828 just keeps on working! (it obviously can’t...

Re: DP10 speculation?
My prediction is that DPX is not gonna be the upgrade us pros are going to want. It's going to include some massive user-friendly UI redesigns on the scale of FCPx, Mach3 will be discontinued and all instruments rolled into DPX. That is really what is needed! Although I love DP and am a long time u...

Re: DP10 speculation?
Seems like since they ported DP to Windows, update progress has slowed down significantly. My speculation: porting DP to Windows was a major undertaking. And sales haven’t increased. Now they are stuck supporting two systems, one of which have very few users. Leaving it less profitable than before. ...

Re: Hackintosh
if the Windows version of DP gets to the point where I start hearing that it's as solid and on par with the Mac version, I would probably consider moving to Windows before I'd go Hackintosh. If Digital Performer is your only main application, and the Windows version gets up to snuff, that would be ...

Re: Hackintosh
I just built a Hackintosh. Which is also the first PC I ever built. There's some good guides out there. And funny thing is, although it was a bit of a hurdle, I got macOS High Sierra running on it, but I can't for the life of me manage to install Windows on it haha. First my reason for building one ...

Re: Advice on Lavalier mics
If you get a condenser mic, it will need to be powered. Does the yamaha mixer have phantom power? If so, you're all set. If not, you might need either a mic with a battery, or an external box that will provide the phantom power. But be careful here! Many Lav mics are designed to use 1-5V phantom po...

Re: MOTU Firewire and OS 10.12 Sierra
Not great help, I suppose, but *sleep* is stated not convenient for any DAW setup. AFAICT, it has always been since OS 9 days. Well, sleep worked fine with no issue before the Nov 1st update. My 828 is also the main sound for my Mac when not working in a DAW... So I like that it can go to sleep occ...
