Re: What is Spring Reverb for?

Funny, but I'm about to run vocals out of DP, through my Radial X-Amp, and into my modded '77 Fender Super Reverb, choose a few mics and a few distances, and bring everything back into DP and mix to taste. Running stuff from DP into various amps for their reverb (or for a little dirt) is a lot of fu...

Re: New MacBook Pros

Speaking of stability and comfort, I wouldn't track an album or a "big band" concert on a laptop, just too much hassle. I've tracked nearly half of my friends' records (the one released August 2007 and the one that we're mixing right now) on a 1.5GHz Powerbook G4 on location. Not a single...

Re: New MacBook Pros

I am really really really unhappy with Apple for dropping Firewire on the MacBooks. Seems like the focus groups that they put together to figure out what to keep and what to drop and what to add didn't include any professionals. I suppose that's what the "Pro" in MacBook Pro means. It seem...

Re: m4a into DP

Every audio-geek guy/gal on a Mac should own Audio Hijack Pro. It is really great. It's basically a 24-bit DAT machine (remember those?) for your Mac, enabling you to record any audio from your computer's audio bus. I've been a user since 2005 and I use it every week for something. http://www.roguea...

Re: NS-10M Crossover Rebuild?

I am pretty sure that the NS-10M Studio and NS-10M Pro are the same exact monitor. Until I build a soundproof room in my new Philly rowhome, I'll need to continue to do remote recording. Having NS-10s with grills is awesome. I also have a Hafler P-3000 Trans Nova that will fit in a small rack and is...

I heart NS-10Ms. Honestly one of my favorite pieces of gear ever.

Re: Favorite Mastering Plugs?

The version of TRacks that you want is the version that allows you to use it as a plug-in, not stand-alone. I say this because you can use any of the components of TRacks in DP or Peak or whatever. I've personally been using the "mono limiter" on a lot of individual tracks since 2005. It's...

Re: let's hear from people with good working systems !!

I run DP4.61 on both a Dual 1.8 G5 and a Powerbook G4 1.5Ghz. Both of my machines run great. All of my NI plug-ins work great... Stay on Tiger! The Native Instruments stuff (at least some if it) won't work right if you were to upgrade the machine to Leopard. Yeah... I'd really like to be able to so...

Re: Favorite Mastering Plugs?

Ozone3 for me. However, if it is a bar code release, it's getting professionally mastered. I will say that Ozone3 has taught me a lot about mastering and how it is an incing on the cake process. Everything should be sounding great in the mix pre-mastering, and mastering should be used as the glue to...
