Re: Building an External Music Studio Building

Do you have to worry about keeping sound in and keeping sound out?

Re: DP Gripes, and things that have (almost) pushed me to Cubase

I still can't understand why someone would want a note that is zero ticks long? Is it even possible to create a note (MIDI Event) like that. That's essentially a note with zero duration. Which is functionally no note at all. Seems like a DAW shouldn't even allow that as a possibility? It's not that...

Re: DP Gripes, and things that have (almost) pushed me to Cubase

For the people getting no notes, consider how your plugin might handle a note that is zero or 1 tick long. For those asking why this matters: I often use DP for composition and arrangement. I quantize note starts and ends so that the durations look right in notation. I mostly edit in the graphic edi...

Re: DP Gripes, and things that have (almost) pushed me to Cubase

I resuscitated my old techlinks on this topic. Is it better for me to start a fresh one?

Oh, as a side note, DP crashed three times while I was turning on VST versions of instruments.

Re: DP Gripes, and things that have (almost) pushed me to Cubase

Oh and for me the buggy behavior was certain notes just didn't play at all when I had True Pianos loaded. I think that is because some VI's might have different "release" characteristics. So what you're hearing when a note is shorted is the release portion. It's weird, because I'd expect ...

Nah. I'm pretty confident it CAN be solved. I was just barking up the wrong tree and adding noise.

Re: DP Gripes, and things that have (almost) pushed me to Cubase

I just updated my TechLink at MOTU. I decided to add a note about how much I don't like that now even the scrub bar snaps to the grid (Ugh!! at long last, have they no decency?!) Here's a project. It has a Pianoteq 8 track already enabled, so you might have to swap that out. https://www.jonstubbsmus...

Re: Motu M2 Issue with Siri and Dictaion

Yea, I think that was a red herring. My interface shows all the faders zeroed out, because Core Audio does not have control over those levels-- which are handled by the device and it's mixer/config panel. But that doesn't mean that the input is not receiving signal-- just means CoreAudio can't contr...

Re: Motu M2 Issue with Siri and Dictaion

Click on the input tab and look to see of the faders are zeroed out. I'm not sure if that means anything, as sometimes that is just the way CoreAudio deals with some external devices that have their own configuration options.

Re: DP Gripes, and things that have (almost) pushed me to Cubase

It like seems the problem doesn't happen at certain tempos. For example the notes cut off randomly at 119bpm, 124bpm and 151bpm, but never at 120bpm, 125bpm or 150bpm. It's as if there's certain magic tempos where DP behaves as it should...very weird. WOW!! You're onto something there! At 120, 125,...

Re: DP Gripes, and things that have (almost) pushed me to Cubase

It's not very consistent. I just did a test and the 2nd note of a series was always shorted, then after than it was more random. It did change with tempo, but slowing down didn't make it better, just different of the notes in the series would short. I guess since it is inconsistent, that pokes holes...

Any projects, and Pianoteq is where I notice it most, because I use it for my composition, arrangements, mockups, etc.

Re: DP Gripes, and things that have (almost) pushed me to Cubase

If quantizing for notation, as opposed to audio, purposes, perhaps a "Save As (Notation)" would be a good approach. That, or shortening quantized notes by a few ticks. If I'm also needing a proper demo, I'll make two versions of a MIDI track: "Playback" and "Notation"....

Re: DP Gripes, and things that have (almost) pushed me to Cubase

This consecutive note problem hasn't always been the case. It worked fine in some previous version of DP. It broke at some point. Previously, when note #1's OFF was on the same tick as note #2's ON, the OFF was prioritized. Then later, the ON was prioritized causing the note to be shorted. It's obvi...

Re: DP Gripes, and things that have (almost) pushed me to Cubase

Working with some MIDI today and found that DP's age-old adjacent note bug has returned (or was never fixed in the first place). With consecutive notes of the same pitch, where starts & ends are quantized for notation purposes, playback doesn't work right. The 2nd note's duration is reduced to t...
