You should wait until your new Mac arrives to run some tests before investing in new equipment. It might be useful to clarify if something has changed about Apple's "approach" to firewire. I.e., will it absolutely not work, or does it's tolerance of firewire connection continue to be 'vest...

This might be limited to MIDI CC automation lanes. Also perhaps notice whether grid on/off state has something to do with whether it "grabbing" an existing handle/node vs creating a new one.

I've been hearing for the past several years, that Apple has neglected Firewire, so at some point in OS updates, it'll just poop out.

Oh, and yea, we can't easily roll back an OS when it does.
