Re: Wind Controllers: WX7, WX11, WX5 by Yamaha
This is just an update and a short report: I went with the Akai EWI4000s because of the built-in tone module so I can park it in a corner and noodle around without too many wires. I truly like it. It is about the size of an overweight soprano sax, fingers like a recorder and the mouthpiece is like a...

MIDI Help
Ok. I am pretty darned embarrassed to be posting this, but I need help with MIDI. The last time I seriously used it was 1990 to sequence a bass line on my DX-21 by using the unused instruments on my Roland TR-505. And that was as deep as I ever got... but, now I find myself with a large quant...

Re: External HD recommendations....
LaCie uses any number of mechs in their drives, based on price and availability, so it's impossible to tell on the high-end stuff what mech is inside the case. In regards to the different brands of mechs, one's as good as another, these days (which isn't saying much  ) For best results with a ...

I find it easier to bung up a song in Logic, but find mixing it in DP to be far superior. No reason to dump one for the other completely, though. YMMV.
Enjoy the DP.

Thanks guys!
It's good to hear that despite having some plastic, they hold up. I, too, tend to rest my fingers on the keypads, so having actually keys is probably what will swing me towards the Yamaha side of things.
However, I am still willing to hear from anyone who knows the Akai... anyone?

WX5 vs EWI4000s
I am curious about getting a wind controller and, of course, have to decide between the two. Unfortunately, one can't just pop down to the wind controller store and try them both. Has anyone played both instruments? If so, what are some of the pros and cons about each? I had one gentleman tell me of...

Oh sure, now that I have jumped ship, they try and lure me back... Does this make Steve the serpent? I might go back if they fixed their audio engine. All my mixes were muddy and had too much boom in them. When I listen to albums produced on Logic, I can hear the exact same issues. I ported a couple...

The only issue I see is possibly noise from the upsample since you would be going from 48 to 88.2 (48 x 1.8375) instead of 96 (48 x 2). The first is not pretty for interpolation between samples. The latter is much nicer, mathematically. Depending on your ears, you may hear no difference or you may f...

You see soft synths in your MIDI patch names ? I thought Dp only used midnam files for external equipment ? I looked again and I see the Retro AS-1 listed, but that might be the only one after looking at the list again. The mystery folder seems to be waiting for some XML files, but no idea from who...

I don't have that folder, but .midinam files are XML files that hold patch names for synths. All mine live in Library>Audio>MidiDevices>MOTU and then a folder named by manufacturer. The majority are for hard synths, although I see a couple of softies in there too. Built-In VI patches are in the Pref...

Compression Depression
I need some newbie help here. I just switched to DP5 and am absolutely loving it so far. The built-in plug ins have for the most part been pretty darned amazing to my ears. I get clarity here where Logic just gives me mush. To help learn the program, I exported some old songs from Logic as au...
