l/r swapping ? i've forgotten how to do it!!

its so long since i used DP i find myself in the rather embarassing position of having forgotten certain things.... I have a stereo track (a car passing from left to right) and i need to swap the left and right tracks around so i can have the car travel right to left. How is this done? In Protools i...

as you say "each to his own" - I too have used both quite extensively for post work, and much as it pains me to say it, PT is more suited to that work than DP. There are certainly strengths and weaknesses in each, and for me, the balance just tips the PT way. And believe me - I hate digide...

i have pretty much decided that the way to go is to get ProTools LE with DVToolkit 2. This running on one mac, with Virtual VTR running on the FCP Mac to provide the high quality images on the large monitor. I'm not a musician, and whilst i really like a lot of the features in DP, its not really gea...

Video Cards ?

I am looking at getting an AJA Kona LHe video card for video editing duties and was wondering if anyone knows whether i will also be able to use it whilst working with Quicktimes in Digital Performer. Specifically, will i be able to do my audio post-production whilst watching the full resolution mov...

i certainly recommend PMC monitors. We bought a couple of pairs of DB1SA (with built-in Flying Mole Digital Amps) after comparing them with some similarly price offerings. The sound is amazingly clean and clear. They don't colour things and the bass goes way lower than you would expect for the size ...

to be honest, I am not too bothered about the cost side of things (it ain't my cash!!). If i got Pt it would need to be HD/TDM as i will be doing final mixes on the system. I suppose i am looking more for operational ideas/thoughts. I have worked with both le/digitranslator and hd version of pt so a...

stephentayler wrote:But for the tiny extra cost it is always worth also having an MBox2 with PTLE for those odd editing features that seem better. I find I do most of my work in DP, but occasionally save up the odd tweak to do in PT.
Intriguing...what kind of editing features do you prefer in PT?

DAW comparisons, suggestions and thoughts please...

I am currently working on a Protools HD1 rig (192 I/O, Sync I/O, ProControl) and previously worked on a Motu 896/DTP/DP4.12 combination. Now I am about to change jobs and my first task is to spec and purchase a video edit suite and audio post suite. I know the video kit i want, but I am unsure which...

i found the lack of the insert time feature to be one of the major reasons for me to move over to protools (i'm now consdidering a return to dp). I did find that when working in post the easiest way around the insert measures problem was to ensure the bpm for each project was set to 240bpm - this th...

will this combo work?

I am considering a completely new audio/video post-production solution and wondered if i could indulge your curiosity for a while to see if my ideas are workable or just plain crazy! At present i am working with PT HD, which is fine, but bloody expensive. As I am looking to create a new facility, I ...

i've got an argosy desk for my my protools/pro control rig - fantastic desk - well made, comfortable to work at, and very flexible for altering the configuration to suit your needs.

The people at argosy are really helpful as well. I would certainly recommend them.

Re: Near-Field Monitors that Translate *Naturally*

seriously consider the PMC range. We demoed them against other similar priced monitors and were blown away by the clarity and depth these monitors put out. We liked them so much we got two pairs of the smallest ones they do (DB1SA) with Flying Mole Digital amps strapped to the back. These are the ne...

Re: Quick Time Compression?

just be aware that a dv-pal movie will run approx 1gb per 5 minutes of runtime. So you could be looking at a 30gb movie file!! The adrenaline does come bundled with Sorenson Squeeze so you could get the editor to load it up and use that. Its amazing how much it compresses a movie with very little im...
