Re: MachFive No More

Dave, if getting of the endless merry-go-round of hardware and software updates makes one a geezer, then so be it. Where do I get the badge? I look at it this way. The 1/4" jack on my 1956 Fender Deluxe steel guitar still plugs into my Line6 Helix. Did I mention the Line6 AX2 amp I played thro...

Re: MachFive No More

I went to France to see the early beta versions of MachFive 1. By the time we got to MachFive3 I thought we had a really good program. I was talking to Hal Leonard about writing a book on the software. Sure, I'm biased and I know there were other great samplers out there. I really believed in MachFi...

Re: DP 11.2 Melodyne Integration

Yo! Very nice to see everybody. I do lurk here and there. Tupence and all... Absolutely correct that I'm not a Melodyne expert or even regular user. Consider me ignorant! As mentioned, I do work in a ProTools studio as a producer. I direct the engineer to do certain tasks. He's been to ProTools scho...

Re: DP 11.2 Melodyne Integration

Hey all! I just saw the update notice. I'm still on DP10. I use it everyday to make a living. Since I don't work for MOTU anymore I don't get free upgrades ;-) I have seen nothing in any of the updates since 10 that cause me to want to pay money. At this point I'm running on OS 11.5 I know from expe...

Re: What are some good MOTU plugins for Podcasting?

DP still makes a terrible cup of coffee. I use DP almost 100% for internet voice-over. I don't know if anybody turns my stuff into a podcast, but what I have to do is make my voice as even and pro as possible for presentation. I use all DP plugs with two exceptions. Because I'm lazy in both mic tech...

Re: Shoutout for DP and BPM

BPM seems a little overpriced at $250. Maybe very overpriced. What does it offer that is unique to justify that? There must be something I’m not absorbing in the pr. For me it's the sounds and customizable loops. I haven't really compared it to any competitors, so I can't say it's better or worse t...

Re: Shoutout for DP and BPM

If it works, it works. I use FCPx for any AV heavy lifting but Premier is much faster for most of what I do these days. I was a Final Cut user until iMovie came out. And yes, if it works, it works. Engineering is creative problem solving. The good news is I don't have any serious problems to solve....

Shoutout for DP and BPM

I spent 45 years in "the music business", mainly working on rock n roll. I've retired from any commercial aspect of the biz and now I work in environmental sciences. Part of my job involves training and marketing videos. I use Premiere for the video work and DP, mainly for voice-overs. Som...

Double-click the A key to get the Arrow cursor back. Any luck?

Re: Favorite/underrated MOTU Plugs

Wow! Throwback time. The PreAmp 1 and Sonic Modulator were in the first round of included plugs with DP and that had to be almost 20 years ago. So it's very cool to still see them getting some love. I was involved in the development of those plugs. I'm not a coder so a coder and myself worked them u...

Re: Sending click tracks to a Cubase user

Yes, reading the Cubase manual was the first thing I did before asking anyone for help. I did not get any answers from it. Didn't mean to be snarky! No offense intended. I wish I could help you with Cubase. I'll bet it's a simple preference somewhere. I guess the good news is that you've confirmed ...

Re: Sending click tracks to a Cubase user

RTFCBM! Sorry, couldn't resist... The good news for the DP user is that a standard MIDI file is not a MOTU or DP standard, it's an industry standard. Any software that reads tempo information from a standard MIDI file should be able to read that from a file created by DP. It never hurts to check wha...

Re: MasterWorks Leveler vs other 2A models question..

What I really need is a leveler that is the same as me riding gain while "looking ahead" at the upcoming wave forms. The dynamic range and lack of mic technique presents quite the challenge nowadays. The MW Limiter has been most helpful after RX7 Advanced Denoise. (times 16–40 tracks) Par...

Re: MasterWorks Leveler vs other 2A models question..

MW Leveler is standard in my signal chain. And yes I've spent time with hardware boxes. No two hardware LAs sound the same. The MW Leveler has four models to choose from. And it has the response knob. The warm-up is critical if you're used to the hardware. If you don't want to deal with the old scho...

Re: Processing bar staying high? Advice please

Plugs on playback-only audio tracks shouldn't take much CPU because of the PreGen (AFAIK). Plugs on master faders, aux tracks, and audio tracks that are passing live audio will not only use continuous CPU cycles, but they have the potential to increase monitoring latency. For example, the MOTU MW Li...
