Re: First Film Scoring Report WIth 7.2/Possible Problem?

Could it be related to the crazy xx.957 frame rate?

I'm lucky enough to live in a PAL world where all my projects tend to be either 25 or 24 frames, and have very rarely struck the '1 frame out' situation.

Re: Keep Quicktime7 with snow leopard

Assuming, you've done the Quicktime "Pro" upgrade - convert video formats, compression choices, things like that - the new Quicktime (10, I think it's called) will *not* give you the features you had (paid for) with Quicktime Pro 7, so in order to still have those features, you need to do...

Re: 9 more DP questions regarding MIDI and editing....

You're doing a score to picture and you've got a drum roll that you want to spot to a specific frame, however you want to spot the last major hit of the roll to the frame, not the beginning. So you set a sync point at that last major hit, then use the "shift selection" command to send the...

Re: 9 more DP questions regarding MIDI and editing....

Should I go ahead and assume there's no dedicated "fade tool" either? No, but you don't really need one anyway - I've never needed it in Pro Tools. You can either use the smart tool, or use the I-beam (selection tool) to select the area for the fade and hit control+F (it remembers the las...

Re: 9 more DP questions regarding MIDI and editing....

Mr_Clifford: Awsome! So, you're saying with the Expert Sleepers plug there's no need to shift the audio back to compensate for the delay.. correct? Yes, that's exactly correct. All plug-ins report their latency to DP's Plug-In Delay Compensation engine, which then plays the audio correspondingly ea...

7) They don't have it as of DP6, and I don't think they've added it to 7, but , if you download the free plug-in 'Expert Sleepers Latency Fixer', once you've calculated the delay induced by your external effects chain (just send a pip through and record it back in, then measure the delay in samples)...

Re: Monitoring in Mono?

So, once in mono, if there are any phase issues, they will become apparent as each channel is soloed individually right? A channel will simply vanish or get cancelled out? Not so much instruments disappearing (although, you're doing something pretty weird if one completely disappears). It's more th...

Re: Recommend a 49-key USB controller to use with DP6?

but was concerned because so much is said about Pro-Tools, and on Buy.com (I think) there was mention of compatibility issues with some other (non-DP) software. There's no compatibility problems. The Axiom series is completely customisable. You can set exactly what MIDI data gets sent for every fad...

Re: Recommend a 49-key USB controller to use with DP6?

The M-Audio Axiom 49 might be worth looking at. I'm using the Axiom 61 and, especially considering what I paid for it, it's running very nicely. Plays real nice with DP, and the extra data sliders, rotary knobs and transport buttons come in very handy (you'll have to check exactly what comes with th...

Re: Comp Takes Question

One other wrinkle is that when you pitch correct the comp track, your corrections disappear if you switch to another take and then go back to your original selection. I'm learning this the hard way. Is there a way to preserve the pitch info? Save your 'comp1' take by creating a new comp take (i thi...

Re: Manual quantization, fixing irregular speed on records

And all this time I've been using DP I thought that "Adjust Beats" was just for audiofiles.... thanks from me too, time to explore some more. So much to know , so little time. Yeah, it's one of the most powerful functions in DP. Great for playing something without click to get a live orga...

Re: Changing The Time Signature Witnin Tracks

Grouse +1. You can't have multiple time signatures on different tracks. Unless you were wanting to print out a score, the fact that there's only one bar/beat counter makes it fairly academic anyway. Just use 4/4 and play your guitar part in 3/4 - you could possibly use some markers to help keep trac...

Re: Manual quantization, fixing irregular speed on records

Sounds like 'Adjust Beats' is the perfect tool for this. It lets you move the barlines (or beats, or whatever) to match your MIDI performance. It's still a manual process, but you can work pretty quickly. Work on a copy of your piece, read up the section in the manual, and do some test runs with the...
