About USB for hdd. It is better to run it on fw due to fw higher SUSTAINED throughput, however, at this point I am running my external hdd drive on USB 2.0 and I can stream 24-28 tracks no problem. So go figure... I would not recommend running your hdd and soundcard on the same fw bus. For me it cau...

Ultralite runs like a champ on my centrino PC. 32 64 128 buffer levels all work fine. tested using Kontakt, battery, atmosphere, and a few other synths. Yup all at the same time... You def gotta do a lot of tweaking on XP to get em to run right. I saved myself some trouble and got a PC from ADK Audi...

3.6.7.0 working well here. I didn't see a huge improvement, but my system is a tiny bit more stable...

Able to run the CPU up to 90% in a mixing session last night without any dropouts.

Of course you can buy a better cable for its objective qualities - grounding, better connectors, etc - but in terms of subjective qualities (i.e., does it sound better) there will not be a difference.

As stated above a PCMCIA to FW cards will not supply (adequate) bus power. You still have to plug the Ultralite, or card, in for power.

I only found one PC laptop that has 6 pin fw port included and it was veerrryyy pricey.

I had the FW 1814 and it is two steps BELOW the Ultralite in terms of build and sound quality. My latency on the Ultralite is really low too - as low as the 1814...

Well I did a little more experimenting. I re-enabled my laptop's onboard sound and now the Motu MIDI is recognized in Cubase. I don't know why this helped - maybe the Motu MIDI drivers were relying on Directx from my onboard sound driver to run properly... If that is the case then shame on Motu for ...

MIDI is not working for me now either. Last week I could use MIDI with very few problems. For the past 3 days my MIDI is nonfunctional. The Ultralite is receiving MIDI info, but Ultralite MIDI isn't even showing up as an option in the control panel of Cubase. I haven't made any changes to my system....
