On the VSL front, I actually have the new VSL Virtual Instrument!!! That's one investment which pleases me greatly. It set me back a "nickle or two", but I've been with VSL for a while. The new 24-bit series was about half price with my upgrade path. I think you have to be an Austrian CPA...

So, while we're waiting I've been enjoying a little light reading-- Eight Pages of Virtual Instruments for All Platforms!! http://www.harmony-central.com/ElectronicMusicianGuides/software_instruments01.htm Thanks for this link, Frodo. Now that's quite a list, a real überlist. Not that my wishlist ...

[ I'd rather spend that plus another $200 on K2 if it's going to work better overall. At this point, it may just be worth having M5 and K2 and one or two others to serve different purposes. My next challenge is to sort out what those purposes will be... Virtual Instruments offers a crossgrade at a ...

What about key mapping in both M5 and K2? Twiddly? Obedient? "Kludgy" Does K2 transfer such key mapping from Giga and EXS? I have almost everything VSL ever released for EXS and would love nothing more to get it working within DP as much as possible. I should scour the VSL forum for more ...

All this has made me wonder if MachFive is a dead end product. This is a case where MOTU marketing is dropping the ball. When you consider the irony of how open-ended MachFive set out to be and how far ahead of the curve it was at the time, your question bears asking. It may not literally be a dead...

4 The interface is a bit kludgy.. Text is kind of small for my (nearly) 40 year old eyes Do tell. Do tell. I've never used OSX's Universal Zoom feature so much as I do in DP. No doubt there will be no retiring this keystroke, it seems. Well, I'm glad to hear this from others. I just discovered the ...

I'll check out EthnoTechno, but can you make some other recommedations just for the sake of additional comparison? East-West Quantum Leap's collection called RA is popular (and expensive, 4x what Ethno Instrument costs). I forked out for it, and am not unhappy. It has quite an elaborate PDF manual ...

Setup problems

I just recently upgraded to DP 4.61, running on OS 10.4.5, and when I tried to set up the MIDI and audio, DP could not find my Edirol interface box or my Keystation 88 controller keyboard. Each of them is directly conncted to my G5 via a USB cable and both of them show up in the Mac Audio MIDI Setup...

...and the solution to your problem is also in a little manual which was in MSI package. Sometimes help is closer than you think. I had the same problem first time I installed MSI. Luckily I read the troubleshooting section of the manual right away. Well, believe it or not, I did read the manual. R...

Thanks for this tip, Josh. I got the alias in the right place and deleted all the unnecessary ones.

Everything is working now. I can see the presets in the standalone as well as in the plug-in in Logic. I'll try it out in DP and Cubase later.

Presets Don't Appear

I have been working on installing MSI for a couple of hours now and finally ran out of ideas (not to mention patience!). I have a G5 running OS 10.4.5. Two internal drives, A & B. The MSI app is in the app folder on drive A and the MSI.dat file is in the root directory of drive B (i.e., not insi...

DP & GigaStudio 3.1

I just got the upgrade to DP 4.6 and also just installed GigaStudio 3.1 (Orchestra) on a Win PC. I have no idea how to set up DP to work with GigaStudio. If anyone has any tips or could suggest any links, I'd appreciate hearing from you.

Beware Logic

Well, I just upgraded to the latest version of DP because Logic has driven me crazy. It may have lots of software instruments, but its modular structure, endless menus, and archaic conceptualizations make it very difficult to learn. I won't even mention the environment window. Setting up GigaStudio ...
