Re: PreSonus FaderPort

Got a FaderPort 8 and returned it. Got the Behringer Xtouch instead. The FaderPort 8 buttons implementation is extremely limited, fewer buttons than the MCU (which maps to DP), doesn't really map well to DP, plus though I thought in theory I would not, I did miss having a master fader. And did not ...

PreSonus FaderPort

So the FaderPort 16 is available, and it looks tempting, but DP is not specifically mentioned as a compatible DAW. Does any have any experience with the FaderPort series on DP? Good? Bad? Indifferent? Is there something better?

Re: Time for a new audio interface?

Just to muddy the waters a bit more ;-) I am a huge fan of the Metric Halo interfaces. Have been using them for over a decade. They are rock solid and Metric Halo support is top notch. They are also readying an upgrade for all their interfaces called 3d (they don't phase out their hardware, they off...

Re: What is a good headset mic for live rock vocals?

the 2 brands I have experience with are Crown & DPA. Both are good...but you will pay a little more for the quality (and DPA is slightly more expensive than Crown). Crown (part of AKG/Harmon) has different mics with different sensitivity levels for the expected SPL level of the source (e.g. ligh...

BWF MetaEdit.app is also a great tool for granular editing all the BWF associated meta-data.

Re: suggestions needed from those using AKG C 414 XL II

Also - for those complaining about the C414 TL II (or the B/ULS), I suggest trying out the Warm Audio W14. It's modeled after the "EB" version of the C414.

Re: suggestions needed from those using AKG C 414 XL II

Like the SM7B, the SM57 performs a lot better with a CloudLifter. http://recordinghacks.com/2011/07/02/cloudlifter-cl1-review/ Since I got a CL-z, I've pressed my SM57 back into service as a VO mic for certain things although my ribbons get more use when I sing. https://www.sweetwater.com/store/det...

Re: DSP-Quattro won't launch after cloning to a new computer

Interestingly, DP was one of those applications that could cause grief if this was not done. In El Cap, hundreds of print files were repaired but almost nothing else and I never heard if it fixing anything for anyone. Sibelius 6 required constant permissions repair or it would stop printing for man...

Re: Is Time Machine the safest way to "clone" a new Mac?

Thanks; I thought I remembered Mike Halloran talking about the dangers of ALL of the cloners out there, and deciding to stay away from them, but it's always good to get additional feedback. If it helps understand my perspective, I've cloned literally thousands of OSX systems when I worked in IT. In...

Re: DSP-Quattro won't launch after cloning to a new computer

Those are called Privileges. Minor point, maybe but if you call them what Apple does, it's easier for others to know what you are talking about. Right - they're technically ACLs, which Finder only gives you very little insight & control over. In fact it represents them as standard UNIX "pe...

Re: DSP-Quattro won't launch after cloning to a new computer

Aha! Finally someone chimes in with the name and location of the preferences file for DSP-Quattro! This file does not exist on my system. I had searched hours for potentially mysterious names and locations, not realizing that it might be an obvious name and location after all, but simply missing. P...

Re: DSP-Quattro won't launch after cloning to a new computer

one last thought for the evening:

it occurs to me that you might be able to launch if you delete preference files (~/Library/Preferences/DSP-Quattro 4 Preferences

and also move the DSP folder out of ~/Library/Application Support - just drop it on the Desktop for now to see if it helps.

Re: DSP-Quattro won't launch after cloning to a new computer

SD! Welcome back and please don't make yourself scarce. The latest version of Onyx has repair permissions removed. Thanks for your input, and prepare for some push back on your advice from some other esteemed members. Thanks - it's been a long time. I'll be around more regularly. Seems you're right...

Re: Is Time Machine the safest way to "clone" a new Mac?

a little late to the party (been away from motunation for quite sometime), but I worked in IT for mac-centric businesses for a while (mostly big marketing firms) and my favorite for cloning has alway been CarbonCopyCloner (https://bombich.com). So many things can go wrong with a clone from inheritin...

Re: DSP-Quattro won't launch after cloning to a new computer

I am able to run DSP-Quattro (v4.4) without issue on the latest macOS (10.12.5). In fact, I use it almost daily. Your issue sound suspiciously like a permissions issue. What did you use to clone your disk? I recommend downloading Onyx (https://www.titanium-software.fr/en/onyx.html) and letting it ru...
