Great information, thanks Brian. I'm forwarding this to my Czech partner, it's his film and he is trying to work these things out.

Cheers!

Dolby logo

Does anyone know the "legal" aspects of putting the Dolby 5.1 logo on a DVD box? Let's say the encoding was done legally, using Compressor for example. Is it then OK to put the dolby 5.1 logo on the case, as well as in the movie itself?

For those of you who follow these things, today is also the end of Mercury retrograde -- in astrology when stuck things get unstuck. Order in. I sent an e-mail a couple of weeks ago to someone only kidding that DP6 would go be released when Mercury or Neptune (which went retro at the same time Merc...

Caribou was an amazing place. I was running a 24 track studio in Denver during their last few years, I even bought a used 24-track Ampex machine from them. I kept waiting for the overflow to show at my place but they never did! The story goes that the fire was on the 2nd floor, in the game room dire...

XY -- thanks for the idea, I have had dashboard disabled on that machine for a while now. Normally I wouldn't worry much, but it's just that these spikes happen exactly when some sound gets sent to a reverb plugin, and it's repeatable. There has to be *something* going on here. Also, I have trouble ...

CPU spiking & plugins... why?

OK, this is weird. I have a project with 3 stereo audio tracks, with sporadic dialog sections a second or two long. All three have a send going to another audio track with a reverb plugin. The three tracks also have MOTU gates on them. Here's what happens: when the audio kicks in for a track, after ...

This is cool. I have *always* wanted a way to do basic EQ, like high-pass filtering before the signal gets into the DAW.

Overall, I like the look of the improvements. I wonder it will pan out on multiple monitors, every view looks tabbed on the photos. And, talking about under-the-hood improvements, to my eye this looks like a Cocoa implementation. Wouldn't have to be, of course, but it's my hunch. grimepoch, what do ...

most uncertain feeling towards a manufacturer : spectrasonics. eric is a genius, his products are amazing...but i still feel really abandoned by the way he handled ( or didn't) the atmosphere and trilogy intel upgrade. omnisphere looks and sounds super...but no ship date and no price. even 50 gigs ...

Dear all, does anyone know if DP6 allows you to create your own IRs from a sinus wave or gunshot, as altiverb does ? I am also wondering, as many of us here if it goes 64 bits (I know this question has been already asked ... kind of a petition ?) Yes, magic Dave has said that any .wav or .aiff can ...

It's been a while since I've been this excited about a DAW upgrade. Me too. I have been HOPING (like the mm) that I wouldn't have to buy AltiVerb. I wonder if it will be 5.1 compatible? Glad you noticed I was keen about this, Andy. :D Sorry, but I very much doubt it'd be DP 5.1 compatible. I'd say ...

It's almost like they've been working on this and DP5 was a stall tactic to give them the extra time to deliver this killer upgrade. I concur! It seems like I've only had relative stability for a month or two in 5. It's been a while since I've been this excited about a DAW upgrade. Me too. I have b...

What a NAMM show, I'm bummed that I couldn't make it out. New fun stuff from Spectrasonics, East West, and now this!

What a NAMM dinner this will be... :(

Oh well, good things are coming, now I need a bigger wallet again.

Spectrasonics Omnisphere

New instrument coming from them, looks cool but I think it's still months from release (9/15/08?).

Technology-wise, we're going backwards -- it runs on steam!
